Overview

The Vestil PLDL-Series Plate and Slab Dollies are designed for transporting plate and slab materials. These dollies are available in three main configurations: PLDL-LD (Light Duty), PLDL-HD (Heavy Duty), and PLDL-ADJ (Adjustable Models). They are manufactured by Vestil Manufacturing Corp., located at 2999 North Wayne Street, P.O. Box 507, Angola, IN 46703.

Function Description

The primary function of these dollies is to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of heavy and bulky plate and slab materials. Users are instructed to position the dolly correctly under the load, ensuring the load's center line aligns with the dolly's vertical center line for stability. For longer materials or heavier loads, two dollies can be used, positioned equidistant from the material's vertical centerline. The PLDL-ADJ models offer an adjustable width feature, allowing them to accommodate materials of varying thicknesses or widths. The dollies are designed to be pushed from behind the load, ensuring the operator's safety by keeping them out of the potential fall path of the material.

Usage Features

Upon receiving the product, users are instructed to immediately remove packaging and inspect for transport damage. Any damage must be recorded on the bill of lading and reported to the freight carrier.

Loading instructions emphasize safety and proper technique:

  1. Determine proper dolly location: Orient the load with its longest dimension parallel to the ground. Align the dolly's center line with the load's vertical center line. Improper centering can lead to an unlevel slab. Push the load from one end, keeping your body entirely behind the load. Do not lift the load; push it parallel to the floor.
  2. Assistance for control: If the slab material cannot be easily controlled by one person, assistance is required. A helper should stabilize and guide the load from the front while the primary user stabilizes and pushes from the rear. If control remains difficult, the dolly should not be used.
  3. Multiple dollies for long materials: For slab materials requiring two dollies for stability, position them equal distances from the vertical centerline. A second person should assist as described above.

Dolly width adjustment (PLDL-ADJ models only): This feature allows users to adjust the dolly's width to fit different materials. To adjust, release both clamps on one side by pulling the clamp locks towards the wheel on the same side, then push or pull the sides to achieve the desired width.

Safety Precautions (Signal Words):

  • WARNING: Identifies hazardous situations that could result in DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY if not avoided. This includes improper or careless use, failure to inspect the dolly, unauthorized modifications, attempting to move uncontrollable loads, and walking beside the load during transport.
  • NOTICE: Identifies practices likely to result in product/property damage.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the dollies. At least once per month, users should:

  • Inspect wheels: Remove embedded material, check for damage (including severe wear), and replace any wheel that does not roll smoothly.
  • Inspect fasteners: Refer to the exploded parts diagrams (FIG. 1, 2, and 3) to identify and install replacement parts as needed.
  • Examine axles and wheel bearings: Remove the dolly from service if either axle is damaged.
  • Inspect hinges (PLDL-LD & -HD): Open the dolly, examine the hinge, then turn the dolly over and inspect the bottom side of the hinge. Remove from service if the hinge is pulling apart.
  • Examine adjustment tubes (PLDL-ADJ): Check for cracks, severe wear, etc.

Limited Warranty

Vestil Manufacturing Corporation provides a limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

  • Warranty Obligation: Vestil will provide a replacement for a defective original part if covered by the warranty and a proper request for service is submitted.
  • Who Can Request Service: Only the warrantee (purchaser from Vestil or an authorized distributor, with full payment) can request service.
  • Original Part Definition: A part used to make the product as shipped to the warrantee.
  • Proper Request: Requires a photocopy of the Customer Invoice (showing shipping date) and a written request including name and phone number. Requests can be sent via mail, fax, phone, or email.
  • Coverage: After receiving a request, an authorized representative will determine coverage. The warranty covers defects in original dynamic components (motors, hydraulic pumps, electronic controllers, switches, cylinders) and original wearing parts (bearings, hoses, wheels, seals, brushes, batteries) under normal usage conditions. Vestil may require the product or defective parts to be sent to their Angola, IN facility.
  • Warranty Period: 30 days for original dynamic components and wearing parts, starting from the date Vestil ships the product to the warrantee (or when the distributor ships the product if purchased from an authorized distributor). Vestil may extend this period by up to 30 days for shipping time.
  • Resolution: Vestil will provide an appropriate replacement for any covered part.
  • Exclusions: Labor, freight, and conditions that automatically void the warranty are not covered.
