Overview

The WTJ-2 Series Vehicle Mounted Jib Cranes are designed for lifting and lowering loads, offering versatility for both fixed-location and vehicle-mounted applications. These cranes are primarily used for material handling, allowing users to lift items up to 1,000 lbs (454.5 kg) depending on the boom configuration.

Function Description:

The WTJ-2 series cranes are manually operated jib cranes equipped with a hydraulic pump for raising and lowering the boom, and a winch for lifting and lowering loads. They feature a telescoping boom that can be adjusted to two lengths, "short" (retracted) and "long" (extended), to accommodate different lifting capacities and reach requirements. The crane can be installed in a fixed location, such as a concrete foundation, or mounted on a vehicle, providing flexibility for various work environments. The turntable allows the boom to rotate, enabling precise positioning of loads.

  • Mounting Plate Dimensions: 10 5/8" x 10 5/8" with 11/16" holes (8 places).
  • Fixed Location Foundation Requirements: 9/16" anchor bolts with J hook, embedded 23" in foundation, projecting ~5" above surface. Concrete foundation with reinforcing bars.

WTJ-2-G & WTJ-2-SS Models:

  • Lifting Bale Capacities:
    • Boom extended ("long"): 500 lb. (227.3 kg)
    • Boom retracted ("short"): 1,000 lb. (454.5 kg)
  • Winch & Winch Hook Capacity: 500 lb. (227.2 kg)
  • Fixed Hook Capacity: 500 lb. (272.2 kg) (Note: Manual states 272.2kg for WTJ-2-SS, but 227.2kg for WTJ-2-G. For consistency with other 500lb ratings, 227.2kg is assumed for WTJ-2-G, and 272.2kg for WTJ-2-SS fixed hook).
  • Winch Hook Heights (Cylinder extended):
    • Boom extended: 99" (39 cm)
    • Boom retracted: 84" (33 cm)
  • Winch Hook Heights (Cylinder retracted):
    • Boom extended: 0" (0 cm)
    • Boom retracted: 12½" (32 cm)
  • Cable Dimensions:
    • Overall length: 32 ft. (9.8 m)
    • Usable length: 24 ft. (7.3 m)
  • Usable Reach (Boom horizontal & fully extended): 52" (132 cm)
  • Usable Reach (Boom horizontal & fully retracted): 30½" (78 cm)
  • Net Weight of Crane: 218 lb. (99.1 kg)
  • Mounting Plate Dimensions: 9" x 11" with 11/16" holes (8 places).

Usage Features:

  • Boom Adjustment: The telescoping boom can be pinned at two points (A for short, B for long) to change the lifting capacity of the lifting bale. The winch hook and fixed hook capacities remain constant at 500 lb. regardless of boom length.
  • Hydraulic Pump Operation: A manual hydraulic pump is used to raise and lower the boom. The relief valve is turned clockwise to close and allow the pump to raise the boom, and counterclockwise to open and lower the boom. The speed of lowering can be controlled by how far the valve is opened.
  • Winch Operation: The winch handle is turned counterclockwise to unwind cable and lower the hook, and clockwise to raise it. The winch features an automatic locking mechanism that prevents the hook from lowering on its own when the handle is not rotating.
  • Turntable Rotation: A locking bolt secures the turntable. Loosening this bolt allows the boom to rotate, enabling precise load positioning. The mast handle is used to adjust the crane's position.
  • Load Positioning: For safe lifting, the load's center of gravity should be directly beneath the center of the small pulley when using the winch hook, or directly beneath the shackle pin when using the fixed hook. When using the lifting bale, rigging should be attached so the load center is directly below the attachment point.
  • Vehicle Mounting: When installing on a vehicle, users must consult the vehicle manufacturer for appropriate installation locations and hardware. The vehicle must be capable of supporting the crane plus 125% of the crane's capacity, and withstand dynamic forces during motion. The boom should be able to rotate freely without obstruction.
  • Fixed Location Mounting: For fixed installations, a concrete foundation with specific dimensions and reinforcing bars is required. The mounting plate is leveled using jam nuts before the crane is assembled.
  • Transport Configuration: For transport, the boom should be lowered completely (relieving hydraulic pressure) and pinned in the short configuration (point A) to prevent rotation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspections: The manual recommends monthly inspections of the winch and pulleys for smooth operation, cable condition (reeving, fraying, thinning, bird-caging, elongation), frame elements (mast receiver, turntable, mast, boom, telescoping boom) for damage, deformation, corrosion, cracks, and wear. Fasteners should be checked for tightness.
  • Mast Bearing Maintenance: The mast bearing should be checked for smooth rotation and unusual noises. If wobbling or noise occurs, the bearing should be greased. Replacement may be necessary if lubrication does not resolve the issue.
  • Hook Inspection: Both the winch hook and fixed hook, as well as the lifting bale, must be visually inspected for deformations and cracks. Hooks should be discarded if the throat opening exceeds 15% of the original, or if twisted more than 10°. Safety latches must be confirmed to operate normally.
  • Vehicle/Foundation Inspection: For vehicle-mounted cranes, the mounting area, anchoring hardware, and vehicle bed/floor should be inspected for rust, corrosion, metal fatigue, and secure anchoring. For fixed installations, the foundation should be similarly inspected.
  • Labeling: All product labels must be in good condition, readable, and in place as shown in the labeling diagram. Replacement labels can be ordered from Vestil.
  • Load Testing: A load test at 125% of the rated capacity is required after any repair and every six months. The crane and installation site must be inspected for damage after the load test.
  • Hydraulic Fluid: The hydraulic jack requires anti-wear hydraulic fluid, viscosity grade 150 SUS at 100°F (ISO 32 @ 40°C), such as AW-32 or Dexron transmission fluid. Fluid should be added up to the fill plug and replaced if milky (indicating water presence).
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common issues like cable jumping/lurching and mast rotation problems, providing possible causes and solutions (e.g., inspecting/replacing cable, loosening locking bolt, inspecting/replacing bearing).
  • Record of Satisfactory Condition: Before first use, a written record detailing the crane's appearance and operation (including measurements and photos) should be created. This record serves as a baseline for future inspections.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship for original dynamic components and wearing parts for 90 days from the shipping date. Unauthorized modifications void the warranty.
