safety instructions may be separate from the instruction manual. An explanation of the
symbols required by this standard shall be provided in either the instruction manual or the
safety instructions.
They shall be written in the official language(s) of the country in which the tool is sold.
They shall be legible and contrast with the background.
They shall include the name and address of the manufacturer or supplier or any other agent
responsible for placing the tool on the market.
The General Power Tool Safety Warnings and the specific tool Safety Warnings, if in
English, shall be verbatim and in any other official language to be equivalent.
Format of all Safety Warnings must differentiate, by font highlighting or similar means, the
context of clauses as illustrated below.
General Safety Rules
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and
instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in all of the warnings listed below
refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power
tool.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or
fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause
you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
