Troubleshooting
SECTION 8:
TROUBLESHOOTING
Hand Cut Surface Appearances
8.01 IDEAL CUT PROFILE
Characteristics: A quality cut produces a smooth finish that requires little, if any, additional cleaning.
The edges of the plate are clean, square and free of slag.
8.02 CUTTING TOO FAST
Characteristics: When the travel speed is too fast, the top edge of the plate will be relatively clean,
and considerable slag will adhere to the bottom of the plate. Gouges can also occur, and pronounced
draglines slant away from the direction of the cut.
Root Cause: Oxygen jet is trailing with insufficient oxygen reaching the bottom of the cut.
