8.03 TIP TO PLATE DISTANCE IS TOO HIGH
Characteristics: When the cutting tip is too far from the plate, the top edge will show signs of being
blown away, this is similar to the effect of too much oxygen pressure, while the rest of the plate
appears satisfactory.
Root Cause: Preheat is not focused on plate surface, oxygen jet is easily disturbed.
8.04 OXYGEN FLOW HIGH
Characteristics: When the cutting oxygen pressure is too high, the excess pressure causes the
oxygen stream to expand upon entering the plate. This causes the top edge of the plate to be uneven
and “dished out”. The plate face is relatively smooth and free of pits or gouges and slag is minimal.
The sound of the cut is exceptionally loud.
Root Cause: Turbulence between the preheat flame and the cutting jet.
