08. Notes on scarifying
Regular scarifying renders
the lawn less sensitive to
dryness, heat and cold.
Aerating the lawn annually
makes it less prone to
diseases, the ground is also
firmed up and bare patches
(caused by ball games or
parties) are repaired. – A
green lawn with even growth
is created.
Time:
The best time for the annual
scarifying procedure is the
early spring.
NOTE
Risk of injury!
Untangleany knots in the
cord immediately.
If using a cable drum, the
connection cord must be
unwound completely,
otherwise electrical
resistance may cause loss
of power and overheating.
Guide the connection cord
behind you when scarifying.
Connection cords can be
inadvertently cut or severely
damaged during scarifying
and therefore involve a high
accident risk. For this
reason, work so that the
connection cord is always
visible in the area of grass
that has already been
scarified.
Only use extension cables
that are brightly coloured to
be easily seen and insulated
against moisture for outdoor
use which are suitable for
use with the lawn scarifier
( Initial operation of
appliance”).
WARNING
If a lawn is scarified more
often than once annually using
a lawn scarifier, this operation
should not be performed
during midsummer or the
middle of autumn.
After scarifying, the lawn
needs to regenerate for a few
weeks. Consequently, the
ideal time for scarifying is the
period of growth in the spring.
Heavily matted lawns should
be scarified twice a year: first
in the spring and then again in
the autumn
Lawn preparation:
Before scarifying, mow the
grass to a height of approx.
2 to 3 centimetres.
The shorter the lawn is cut, the
better the scarifying results.
The lawn must not be freshly
seeded, wet or excessively
dry.
Tips for optimum results:
- The soil should only be
scored slightly, in order to
prevent damage to the grass
roots.
( Adjusting the working
depth”)
- Guide the lawn scarifier in
straight parallel strips.
- Maintain an even working
speed.
- Always bring the appliance
into the transport position
before turning it around.
- Avoid staying stationary in
one place for any duration.
- In the case of heavily matted
lawns, repeat the process
perpendicular to the initial
strips.
After scarifying:
- Free the lawn completely of
scarified material.
- Fertilise the lawn and re-
seed any bare patches that
may have appeared.
- Water the lawn generously.
