Preparing the Machine for Operation

General

Installing the Mono Handlebar (MB 448 PC, MB 448 TC, MB 448 VC)

Insert sleeve (I) in the bore on handlebar (1).

Installing the Dual Handlebar (MB 443, MB 443 T, MB 448 PT, MB 448 T, MB 448 TX)

Fit protective sleeves (H) onto the two lower handlebars (1).

Assembling the Grass Catcher Box

Fit the upper part of the grass catcher box (B) onto the lower part of the grass catcher box (C).

Attaching and Detaching the Recoil Starter Rope

Detach the spark plug socket from the engine.

Fuel and Engine Oil

Avoid damage to the machine! Top up engine oil before starting for the first time.

Controls

Adjusting the Mono Handlebar (MB 448 PC, MB 448 TC, MB 448 VC)

When actuating the detent lever, always hold the upper handlebar with one hand.

Folding Down the Dual Handlebar (MB 443, MB 443 T, MB 448 PT, MB 448 T, MB 448 TX)

The upper handlebar can be folded down by releasing the quick-release caps.

Grass Catcher Box

Open the discharge flap (1) and hold it open.

Central Cutting Height Adjustment

Six different cutting heights can be set. Level 1 = 25 mm, Level 6 = 75 mm.

Level Indicator

The upper part of the grass catcher box features a level indicator (1).

Safety Devices

Safety Devices

The lawn mower is equipped with safety devices, which prevent inadvertent contact with the mowing blade.

Motorstop Lever

The engine stops when the motorstop lever is released during running operation.

Notes on Working with the Machine

Working Area for Operator

For safety reasons, the operator must stay within the working area behind the handlebar.

Operating the Machine

Starting the Engine

Do not start the engine in tall grass. Select a higher cutting height setting if the engine is difficult to start.

Stopping the Engine

To stop the engine, release the motorstop lever (1).

Emptying the Grass Catcher Box

For safety reasons, the engine must be stopped before removing the grass catcher box.

Cleaning the Machine

Checking Blade Wear

Blades are subjected to differing degrees of wear depending on location and duration of use.

Removing and Installing the Mowing Blade

Use a suitable wooden block (1) to counterhold mowing blade (2).

Sharpening the Mowing Blade

VIKING recommends having the mowing blade sharpened by a technician.

Storage and Periods of Inoperation (Winter Break)

Store the machine in a dry, locked, dust-free place. Ensure it is out of children's reach.
