Do you have a question about the Villager VLN 2620 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Villager VLN 2620 is a reciprocating saw designed for various cutting tasks, offering both general and specialized cutting capabilities for materials like wood, plastics, composites, and metal. This power tool is accompanied by an original manual instruction, which outlines its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The reciprocating saw consists of several key components:

  • Blade (1): The cutting element that performs the actual sawing.
  • Pivot shoe (2): A movable support that rests against the workpiece, providing stability during cutting.
  • Quick-release blade clamp (3): Allows for easy and quick installation and removal of the blade.
  • Carbon brush cover (4): (Not shown in Fig. 1) Covers the carbon brushes, which are essential for the motor's operation.
  • Power light (5): (Not shown in Fig. 1) Illuminates when the tool is connected to the power supply.
  • On/off switch trigger (6): Activates and deactivates the tool.
  • Lock-on button (7): Used for continuous operation, allowing the user to maintain power without continuously holding the trigger.
  • Locking screw (8): (Not shown in Fig. 1) Secures the pivot shoe in its desired position.

Important Technical Specifications

The Villager VLN 2620 boasts the following technical specifications:

  • Model: Villager VLN 2620
  • Voltage/frequency: 230V~50Hz
  • Power rating: 1050 W
  • No load speed: 0-2500 /min
  • Max cutting depth: 150 mm
  • Weight: 3.39 kg
  • Noise:
    • Lpa = 92.2 dB(A), Kpa = 3 dB(A)
    • LWA = 103.2 dB(A), KWA = 3 dB(A)
  • Vibration:
    • Cutting board: a h,B = 25.65 m/s², K = 1.5 m/s²
    • Cutting wooden beam: a h,WB = 24.62 m/s², K = 1.5 m/s²

The declared vibration values are measured according to a standardized test method and can be used for comparing different tools. It's important to note that actual vibration levels during use may vary depending on the tool's application and the workpiece. Users are advised to wear hearing protection if the sound pressure exceeds 85 dB(A).

Usage Features

Assembly and Blade Installation: Before assembly, always ensure the power supply matches the voltage on the rating plate. To prevent accidental starts, verify that the lock-on button is not engaged and your finger is not on the trigger before plugging in the tool. To install the blade:

  1. Disconnect the power cord.
  2. Rotate the quick-release blade clamp (3) counter-clockwise by hand.
  3. Push the blade (1) into the deepest position, then release the quick-release blade clamp, ensuring it is securely fastened. Always pull on the blade to confirm it is locked in place before connecting power to avoid serious injury.

Operation:

  • Switching On/Off: Connect the plug to the power supply; the power light (5) will illuminate. Squeeze the switch trigger (6) to turn the tool on, and release it to turn it off.
  • Continuous Operation: For extended use, press the lock-on button (7) on the left side of the handle after squeezing the trigger.
  • Changing Pivot Shoe Position: The pivot shoe's position can be adjusted to control cutting depth and angle.
    1. Unplug the saw to prevent accidental starting.
    2. Loosen both cap screws in the gear frame with a hex key.
    3. Reposition the pivot shoe assembly inward or outward.
    4. Retighten both cap screws securely, but do not overtighten.
    5. Remove the hex key.
    • WARNING: When cutting into walls, be aware of hidden electrical wiring, water pipes, and mechanical hazards. Do not touch metal parts when cutting into a wall; grasp only the insulated gripping surfaces.

Cutting Techniques:

  • General Cutting: Clamp the workpiece if portable. Rest the front shoe of the saw on the workpiece (ensuring the blade is not touching) and start the saw. Apply firm pressure in the direction of the cut to keep the shoe pressed against the workpiece. Avoid forcing or stalling the saw; let the tool and blade do the work. Coarser blades are suitable for wood, plastics, and composites, while finer blades are for metal. Vibrations may indicate the need for a finer blade or higher speed. Overheating or clogging may suggest a dull or coarser blade is needed.
  • Plunge Cutting: Mark the cut line. Place the blade tip over the starting point with the saw parallel to the line. Slowly lower the saw until the shoe's bottom edge rests on the workpiece (blade not touching). Start the saw and allow it to reach full speed. With the saw resting on the shoe, slowly tilt it forward to lower the blade onto the cut line, continuing until the blade is perpendicular to the workpiece.
  • Metal Cutting: Use blades specifically designed for metal. Light oil can be used as a coolant to prevent overheating, facilitate faster cutting, and extend blade life.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Maintenance: The Villager VLN 2620 requires no special maintenance beyond regular cleaning.

  • Ventilation Slots: Regularly clean the ventilation slots to ensure proper airflow.
  • Plastic Parts: Do not use solvents or aggressive cleaning agents. A mild detergent on a damp cloth is recommended. Ensure water does not come into contact with the tool.

Replacement of Carbon Brushes: For safety, the machine automatically shuts off if the carbon brushes are too worn to contact the motor. In such cases, both carbon brushes must be replaced.

  • Obtain a pair of similar carbon brushes from an authorized service organization or qualified professional.
  • Loosen the carbon brush cover counter-clockwise with a screwdriver, open the cover, and remove the old brushes.
  • If the brushes are 6 mm or less, both must be replaced.
  • Fit new carbon brushes and replace the brush housing.
  • CAUTION: Always replace brushes in pairs and disconnect the machine from the power supply before removing any electrical covers.

Environmental Protection and Disposal: The product is marked with a symbol indicating it should not be discarded with household waste. It must be returned to a collection system compliant with the European WEEE Directive for recycling or dismantling to reduce environmental impact. Electrical and electronic equipment can be hazardous due to toxic substances.
