Unlocking
Pull
lever on left under instrument panel -
the bonnet springs up out of its lock.
At
the same time, a release button will ap-
pear
in the radiator grille - see right illustra-
tion.
Before opening the bonnet ensure
that
the
wiper
arms are not
lifted
off
the windscreen.
Otherwise
damage
could occur to the
paintwork.
Opening
Lift the bonnet slightly and push the release
button in the direction of the arrow. The
catch
is thus
released.
Warning
Please
refer
to the
warning
notes
on page 60
before
carrying out
any kind of
work
in the engine
compartment.

Opening the bonnet
•
Vehicles
with
support rod
Lift bonnet slightly and then open fully. Take
the rod out of the clip and put the end of the
rod in the hole provided (see illustration).
•
Vehicles
with
gas support
strut
Lift the bonnet slightly and then open to the
stop.
The bonnet is held in position by a gas
filled rod.
Warning
•
For
safety
reasons the bonnet
must
always
be properly closed
when
vehicle is moving. Always
check
therefore
after
closing the
bonnet
that
the lock is engaged.
This is the case
when
the bonnet
is flush
with
the
adjacent
body
panels.
•
If you should notice
that
the
lock is not engaged, stop the ve-
hicle
immediately
and close the
bonnet.
Closing
the bonnet
•
Vehicles
with
support rod
Lift the bonnet slightly and unhook the rod.
Press
the rod into the retaining clip on the
front
cross
panel.
Let the bonnet fall into the
lock
from a height of about 30 cm - do not
press
it down!
•
Vehicles
with
gas support
strut
Hold
the bonnet on the side where the gas
filled rod is fitted.
Press
the bonnet clown
until the gas filled rod gives way and then
allow
the bonnet to fall into position - do
not press down!
