• Automatic wash/wipe facility
Pull lever towards steering wheel 4 -
wipers and washer work.
Release lever -
The washer stops and the wipers carry on
for about 4 seconds.
The wiper/wash system functions at each
position (0-3).
tear window •
Press button A - the wiper works about
every 6 seconds {intermittent wipe). Pres-
sing the button again switches the wiper
off.
Automatic wash/wipe
Press lever away from steering wheel 5,
and hold in this position -
The wiper and washer work as long as the
lever is held in this position.
Release lever -
The washer stops and the wiper carries on *
for about 4 seconds.

Headlight washer system*
When the headlights are on, the lenses are
washed every time the windscreen is
washed 4
At regular intervals such as when filling the
tank, caked-on dirt and insects should be re-
moved.

Windscreen wiper blades
Warning
• For clear vision, it is impera-
tive that the windscreen wiper
blades are in good condition.
• In order to prevent streaks on
the windscreen, you should clean
the windscreen wiper blades reg-
ularly with a window cleaner. If
the windows are particularly
dirty, e. g. insect remains, a
sponge or cloth should be used to
clean the blades.
• For reasons of safety, you
should change the wiper blades
once or twice a year. Windscreen
wiper blades can be purchased at
Volkswagen dealers.
When it is freezing, check that the
wiper blades are not frozen to the
glass before switching the wipers
on for the first time.
If the wiper blades judder, it may be caused
by various things:
• If the vehicle has been washed in an au-
tomatic car wash, residual wax may be left
on the windscreen. This residue can only be
removed by using a special cleaner. Your
Volkswagen dealer will be happy to give you
further information.
Filling the windscreen washer container
with a window cleaner containing a wax re-
mover can solve the judder problem. Sol-
vent cleaners cannot remove this residue.
• Damaged wiper blades can also lead to
judder. In this case the blades should be re-
newed.
• The blades are set at an incorrect angle.
Have the angle checked and, if necessary,
adjusted by a Volkswagen dealer.
