Overview

This document is a user manual for the Vuly Cubby Swing, designed for use with Vuly Quest and Max swing set frames. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, safety, usage, and maintenance of the Cubby Swing.

Function Description:

The Vuly Cubby Swing is an accessory designed to be attached to existing Vuly swing set frames (Quest or Max models). It functions as a single-occupant swing station, providing a cubby-like enclosure for play. The manual emphasizes that it is intended for domestic and outdoor use, with a focus on safety through proper installation and ongoing maintenance.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Minimum User Age: 6 years
  • Maximum User Weight per Swing Station: 175 lb (80 kg)
  • Maximum Combined User Weight per Swing Set Frame: 330 lb (150 kg)
  • Maximum Swing Fall Height: 2,226 mm (88 in.)
  • Assembly: Adult assembly required.
  • Supervision: Adult supervision required at all times.
  • Protective Surfacing:
    • Minimum depth of 9 in. (229 mm) of loose-fill materials (wood mulch/chips, engineered wood fiber (EWF), or shredded/recycled rubber mulch) for equipment up to 96 in. (2438 mm) high.
    • Minimum depth of 9 in. (229 mm) of sand or pea gravel for equipment up to 60 in. (1524 mm) high.
    • Initial fill level of 12 in. (305 mm) for loose-fill materials to account for compression.
    • Minimum of 6 in. (152 mm) of protective surfacing for play equipment less than 48 in. (1219 mm) in height.
    • Surfacing must extend at least 72 in. (1829 mm) from the equipment in all directions.
    • For to-and-fro swings, surfacing must extend in front of and behind the swing to a distance equal to twice the height of the top bar from which the swing is suspended.
    • For 360° swings, surfacing must extend in a circle whose radius is equal to the height of the suspending chain or rope, plus 6 ft in all directions.
    • Hard surfaces like concrete, asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet, or thin mats are not considered adequate protective surfacing.
    • Poured-in-place surfaces or pre-manufactured rubber tiles are alternative options, but typically require professional installation and must meet ASTM F1292 standards for impact attenuation.

Usage Features:

  • Single Occupant: Designed for one user at a time.
  • Outdoor Use: Exclusively for domestic and outdoor environments.
  • Adult Supervision: Constant adult supervision is mandatory during use.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Risk of strangulation or death from items restricting airways, entanglement, or entrapment.
    • Ensure the system is secured with anchors or bolts before use.
    • Avoid use in strong wind or wet weather.
    • Children should not walk close to, in front of, behind, or between moving items.
    • Do not twist swing chains/ropes or loop them over the top support bar, as this reduces strength.
    • Avoid swinging empty seats.
    • Children should sit in the center of the swings with full weight on the seats.
    • Do not use the equipment in unintended ways or get off while it is in motion.
    • Do not wear loose-fitting clothing, drawstrings, scarves, cord-connected items, capes, or ponchos due to strangulation risk.
    • Do not climb when the equipment is wet.
    • Do not attach items not specifically designed for the equipment (e.g., jump ropes, clotheslines, pet leashes, cables, chains) due to strangulation hazard.
    • Remove bike or sports helmets before playing.
    • Wear well-fitting, full foot-enclosing footwear (avoid clogs, flip-flops, sandals).
    • The system can become hot under direct sunlight, causing burning injuries.
    • Installation errors can lead to falls, serious head injury, or death.
    • Lock nuts and bolts securely.
    • Children must not use the equipment until properly installed.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines a detailed maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and safety of the swing set:

  • At the beginning of each play session:

    • Tighten all hardware.
    • Check protective coverings on bolts, pipes, edges, and corners; replace if loose, cracked, or missing.
    • Check all moving parts (swing seats, ropes, cables, chains) for wear, rust, or deterioration; replace as needed.
    • Check metal parts for rust; sand and repaint with non-lead-based paint if found.
    • Reinstall any removed plastic parts or other items.
    • Rake and check depth of loose-fill protective surfacing materials to prevent compaction and maintain appropriate depth; replace as necessary.
  • Once a month during play session:

    • Check all moving parts (swing seats, ropes, cables, and chains) for wear, rust, or deterioration; replace as needed.
  • Twice a month during play session:

    • Tighten all hardware.
    • Check protective coverings on bolts, pipes, edges, and corners; replace if loose, cracked, or missing.
  • At the end of each play session:

    • Remove plastic and textile swings and store in a cool, dry place.
    • Rake and check depth of loose-fill protective surfacing materials to prevent compaction and maintain appropriate depth; replace as necessary.
  • General Maintenance:

    • Owners are responsible for maintaining the legibility of warning labels.
    • Disassemble and dispose of the equipment when it is no longer safe to use, ensuring no unreasonable hazards exist.
    • Replace any worn, deteriorated, defective, or missing parts immediately and only through Vuly.
    • Save the instruction and information sheet for future reference.
    • Maintain the depth of loose-fill surfacing material by marking the correct level on play equipment support posts and periodically refilling/redistributing.
    • Ensure proper water drainage for containment areas around surfacing.

The manual also includes a disclaimer regarding Vuly's liability, emphasizing that purchasers assume all risks associated with using the product and waive rights to action against Vuly for personal injury or death. It directs users to www.vulyplay.us/install for video instructions and VulyPlay.us/Terms for warranty policies.
