The Walker's HD Pro Elite is a sophisticated hearing enhancement and protection device designed to improve auditory perception while safeguarding against loud noises. It is engineered to amplify high-frequency sounds by up to 9 times, with a power increase of 50 decibels, making it easier to hear subtle sounds in various environments. Concurrently, it offers robust hearing protection through its Sound Activation Compression (SAC) circuit, which works in conjunction with an earplug to shield the user from sudden loud noises, such as muzzle blasts. With a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 29dB, it provides one of the highest levels of protection available in the industry.
A key feature of the HD Pro Elite is its Adjustable Frequency Tuning (AFT), which allows users to focus on specific sound frequencies. This capability ensures crystal-clear reception, adapting to different acoustic situations and personal preferences. The device is remarkably lightweight, weighing less than ¼ oz., and is designed for comfortable wear behind either ear, accommodating users with or without eyeglasses.
To begin using the device, a #13 Mercury or Zinc Air battery must be installed. The process involves removing a sticker from the battery, then opening the battery compartment by pulling down on its rim. The battery is secured by a small lip at the bottom of the compartment. It's crucial to insert the battery with the (+) sign facing up, ensuring the compartment door closes easily. A red dot inside the unit also indicates the (+) side. A weak battery may result in buzzing or humming.
Once the battery is inserted and the compartment door is fully closed, the unit turns on, signaled by four upscale tones. The HD Pro Elite offers 19 levels of volume control. Volume can be increased by pressing the top of the Volume Control toggle and decreased by pressing the bottom. Each adjustment is confirmed by a single tone, while a double tone indicates reaching the maximum or minimum volume limit. The device incorporates a built-in "safety" circuit that limits its output to a maximum of 115dB SPL, protecting the user from excessive sound levels. To turn the unit off, the battery door should be opened to its first stop (click).
The device comes with a "One Size Fits All" foam earplug. For optimal fit and comfort, the earplug needs to be properly inserted. This involves squeezing and rolling the earplug between the fingers to compress it, then inserting it into the ear. The sound tube should be positioned upwards, extending past the ear hook. It may be necessary to trim the sound tube approximately 1/8" above the tip of the ear hook. An overly long tube can cause the unit to fall off, while a too-short tube may cause the earplug to pull out. While holding the ear hook between the thumb and forefinger, the sound tube is pushed onto the ear hook. This process may need to be repeated to achieve a comfortable and secure fit.
The AFT mechanism is located directly above the volume control toggle switch. It is accessed by inserting the enclosed screwdriver into the bottom center of the ADT pop-up hinged door. The AFT circuit is a set screw marked NH (Normal – High). With the set screw in the 7:00 position, the emphasis is on the lower end of the high frequencies. Turning the AFT set screw to the right (clockwise) shifts the emphasis to higher frequencies, with the maximum setting at the 5:00 position. Users should experiment with the set screw to find the best reception for their specific conditions and environments.
The HD Pro Elite is a precision-engineered instrument and should be handled with care. To ensure its longevity and proper function, several maintenance guidelines should be followed:
Button cell batteries pose a significant hazard if swallowed. It is crucial to keep batteries out of the reach of children and to discard them very carefully. Never put batteries in the mouth, as they are slippery and can be easily swallowed by accident. Always check medication before swallowing, as batteries have been mistaken for tablets. Children should never be allowed to play with batteries, and batteries should never be changed in front of children. In the event a battery is swallowed, immediate contact should be made with The National Button Battery Ingestion Hotline at (202) 625-3333 for counsel or treatment.
Whistling or squealing may sometimes occur when cupping a hand over the ear or adjusting the volume. This happens when sound leaking from the earplug is directed into the microphone. This should cease once the hand is removed. If it persists, ensure the earplug is inserted properly.
The Walker's HD Pro Elite is designed to provide a reliable and comfortable solution for both hearing enhancement and protection, with user-friendly controls and clear maintenance guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
