AETOS POWER SUPPLY
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
The Walrus Audio Aetos is an 8-output, isolated
power supply, utilizing an internal custom wound
toroidal transformer to provide the highest noise
ltering and cleanest power, giving artists the
purest sound in their signal chain. The Aetos is
housed in a solid die cast enclosure and is 4.7”long
x 3.7” wide x 1.2” height and has 8 total 9VDC
outputs, 6 are 100mA and 2 outputs are high
current outputs (300mA) for higher current drawing
pedals like Line 6 DL series modelers, the Boss
Twin Series Pedals, Strymon, and many digital
modulation pedals on the market. It comes with a
detachable 230V AC Power cord. This unit comes
with 8 – 2.1mm barrel black power cables and 2
black-to-red (line 6) power cables.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Plug in the 230VAC power cord to the 230VAC
input. Plug the Male end of the power cord into a
230VAC power source 230VAC only – this
product is not rated for any other voltages). Once
plugged in, the blue LED will light up indicating
that the power supply is on.
Warning! Before connecting your effects pedal to
the Aetos, you must rst verify the power
requirements for your pedal.
VOLTAGE RATING
The voltage rating for your pedal must be 9VDC
(direct current), do not use the Aetos for AC
(alternating current) pedals. Most effects pedals
are designed for 9VDC power, however, you
should always check rst or you could risk
destroying your pedal. For other voltages, like
12VDC, 18VDC or 24VDC, which are common,
you will need to use a custom power supply that
the manufacturer provides or recommends.

Overview

The Walrus Audio Aetos is an 8-output, isolated power supply designed to provide clean and filtered power to effects pedals, ensuring a pure sound in the signal chain. It utilizes an internal custom-wound toroidal transformer for superior noise filtering and isolation between each of its eight regulated output channels.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Aetos is to supply stable and isolated 9VDC power to multiple effects pedals. Unlike daisy chains or individual wall-warts, which can introduce ground loops, magnetic field issues, and noise, the Aetos's isolated design prevents these problems by giving each pedal its own dedicated power channel. This is particularly beneficial for higher current drawing digital modulation effects and setups with multiple pedals, where noise can become more evident. The unit is housed in a durable solid die-cast enclosure.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Outputs: 8 total 9VDC outputs.
    • 6 outputs provide 100mA of current.
    • 2 outputs provide high current (300mA), suitable for demanding pedals such as Line 6 DL series modelers, Boss Twin Series Pedals, Strymon, and various digital modulation pedals.
  • Input Voltage: 230VAC (60Hz) only. The product is not rated for any other voltages, and using an incorrect input voltage will destroy the unit and void the warranty.
  • Dimensions: 4.7" long x 3.7" wide x 1.2" height.
  • Transformer: Internal custom-wound toroidal transformer for isolation and noise filtering.
  • Power Cables Included:
    • 8x 2.1mm barrel black power cables (standard for most effects pedals).
    • 2x black-to-red (line 6) power cables (reverse polarity for Line 6 effects pedals).
    • 1x detachable 230VAC UK power cord.
  • Polarity: Most effects pedals are negative ground with a center-negative 2.1mm barrel jack. The Aetos is designed to accommodate this standard. The black-to-red cables are specifically for Line 6 pedals which may have reverse polarity.
  • Current Draw Considerations: Users must verify the current draw requirements of their pedals. Pedals requiring less than 100mA can use outputs 1-6. Pedals requiring between 100mA and 300mA should use outputs 7 and 8. Using high current outputs for low current draw pedals is acceptable and will not harm the pedal. Analog pedals typically draw less than 25mA, while digital pedals with DSP chips, ADACs, and memory chips draw significantly more current.

Usage Features:

  • Simple Setup: Plug the 230VAC power cord into the 230VAC input and then into a 230VAC power source. A blue LED indicates when the power supply is on.
  • Pedal Compatibility: Designed for 9VDC direct current pedals. It is crucial to verify that pedals are 9VDC and not AC (alternating current) to prevent damage. For other voltages (e.g., 12VDC, 18VDC, 24VDC), a manufacturer-provided or recommended custom power supply must be used.
  • Polarity Check: Users should confirm the polarity of their pedals. The majority of DC-powered effects pedals are negative ground with a center-negative 2.1mm barrel. The included black-to-black cables are for standard pedals, while the black-to-red cables are for Line 6 effects pedals with reverse polarity.
  • LED Indicator: A blue LED illuminates to confirm the power supply is active.

Maintenance Features:

  • No User Serviceable Parts: The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Users are explicitly warned not to remove the cover due to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Warranty Voidance: Removing the backplate or using an incorrect input voltage will immediately void the 5-year warranty.
  • Warranty Coverage: The Aetos comes with a 5-year warranty covering workmanship and components from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover misuse or accidental damage and is non-transferable. It is only valid for the original owner who has registered the product and can provide a purchase receipt.
  • Registration: Users are encouraged to register their product using the included warranty card to ensure warranty validity.
  • Repair Process: If the product becomes defective within the warranty period, users must contact Walrus Audio to set up an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). After receiving an RMA reference number, the unit should be shipped back to Walrus Audio with the warranty card, purchase receipt, and a pre-paid return shipping label. Only FEDEX or UPS shipping methods are accepted. Returns without an RMA reference number will not be received.
  • Troubleshooting: For any troubleshooting issues, users should contact Walrus Audio directly at sales@walrusaudio.com.
