Overview

The WaterFuse® - Public Area is an automatic water shut-off valve system designed to prevent water damage in public spaces such as schools, hospitals, shopping centers, and other public areas. Its core principle is to provide water only when a space is occupied, automatically shutting off the water supply when the area is vacant. This significantly reduces the risk and extent of water damage caused by pipe or equipment failures, or taps left running. The system also integrates with lighting control, ensuring that water is available when lights are on and shut off when lights are off, which contributes to energy savings by preventing unnecessary lighting use.

The system comprises several key components:

  • Control Unit (art. no. 2220111): This is the central brain of the system. It receives signals from the presence detector and controls the motorized ball valves. The control unit operates on 230 VAC for its main power input and outputs 12 VDC to power the motorized ball valves. It can manage up to three motorized ball valves simultaneously. The control unit can also be integrated with any 230 VAC control, such as a switch or a timer, allowing for flexible water on/off control through various solutions. It features LED indicators: a red LED indicates that the ball valves are open, and a green LED indicates they are closed. The control unit should be mounted in a suitable location within the monitored space.
  • Motorized Ball Valves (art. no. 2130051 for DN15, also available in DN20): These valves are responsible for physically turning the water supply ON and OFF. They are designed for tap water applications, operating within a temperature range of 0-60°C and a pressure range of 0-10 bar. The valves are equipped with an internal R-thread for connection to pipes, typically using compression fittings and appropriate sealant. They can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or upside down, and their operation is independent of the flow direction. A crucial feature is their manual override capability: in case of a power outage, the valves can be operated manually by lifting a knob 5 mm and turning it clockwise to close the valve. An indicator next to the knob shows the open/closed status. The ball valves must be installed in an accessible location, not concealed, to allow for easy replacement and detection of any leaks. They should be placed in rooms with a waterproof floor, in a distribution cabinet, or a custom-designed space. After installation, the plumbing must be checked for leaks according to www.säkervatten.se guidelines. The ball valves have been tested by Sintef in accordance with EN 13828 and NT VVS 094.
  • Presence Detector (e.g., Eljo Trend E1904391, optional): This sensor detects human presence in the monitored space. The signal from the presence detector (230 VAC) is fed to the control unit. If an existing presence detector is available, it can be used, provided it is capable of controlling fluorescent lights and other reactive loads (not just incandescent lights). The same presence detector is typically used for both water control and room lighting. The delay setting on the presence detector determines how long the water and lighting remain on after no presence is detected. The recommended default delay is 2 minutes, though it can be adjusted from 1 second to 20 minutes. If using a detector like the Eljo Trend, it includes a light level sensor, which should be adjusted clockwise to its maximum setting to ensure presence is always activated regardless of ambient light levels. The presence detector should be mounted in a suitable location within the monitored space to effectively detect presence.

Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Supply (Control Unit): 230 VAC
  • Electrical Supply (Motorized Ball Valves): 12 VDC
  • Valve Sizes: G15, G20 (DN15, DN20)
  • Water Temperature Range: 0-60°C
  • Water Pressure Range: 0-10 bar
  • Control Unit Capacity: Up to three motorized ball valves
  • Presence Detector Output: 230 VAC control signal
  • Presence Detector Delay: Adjustable from 1 second to 20 minutes (norm is 2 minutes)

Usage Features:

The system operates continuously, monitoring presence in the space. No daily manual intervention is required from the user. The automatic shut-off feature ensures that water is only supplied when needed, minimizing waste and preventing damage. The integration with lighting control provides a seamless and energy-efficient solution for public areas.

Maintenance Features:

  • Installation: The product must be installed by a qualified professional to ensure correct installation and to maintain warranty validity. Plumbing installations must be completed by a plumber.
  • Leak Detection: Ball valves must be installed in accessible locations to facilitate easy detection of any leaks.
  • Manual Override: In case of power failure, the motorized ball valves can be manually operated to open or close the water supply.
  • Troubleshooting: If issues arise, users should first consult the dealer or installer. Before reporting a fault, it is recommended to read the operating instructions and check all settings.
  • Recycling: Used products, including electrical and electronic components, must be disposed of at designated collection points for recycling to prevent negative environmental and health impacts.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 1-year functional warranty, provided it is used normally, maintained correctly, and installed according to instructions by a professional. The warranty covers defective parts but does not include shipping, inspection, or assembly costs unless the Consumer Sales Act applies. The warranty does not cover defects from unauthorized modifications, accidents, malicious damage, or deterioration due to neglected maintenance, incorrect use, or failure to follow installation instructions. Batteries are considered consumables and are not covered by the warranty. The reseller's liability is strictly limited to product replacement.

The WaterFuse® - Public Area system is an accepted installation guideline (monteringsanvisning 2016:1) by "SÄKER VATTEN" (Safe Water), indicating its compliance with industry standards for water safety and installation practices.
