Home Maintenance
There is no power to the remote display…………………….
If there is a loss of power to the valve controller, it will continue to work normally on battery
power for several months. Power to the remote display will be cut off to conserve the battery
power. Connections to the intruder alarm and/or building management system will continue
as normal. See page 2 for instructions on how to operate the system using the valve driver.
As soon as mains power is restored the system will operate fully as normal and will have
remembered previous guard levels.
The valve doesn’t open or close…………………….
If all controls are functioning as normal but the valve is failing to close, please see Routine
Maintenance below as the valve assembly may be blocked up.
How to manually bypass the valve to allow water flow…………………….
WARNING The manual bypass must only be used
in an emergency to restore the water supply when
the controller is damaged or there has been a long
term loss of mains power.
Rotate the whole coil head as shown. THIS WILL
DEACTIVATE WATER LEAK PROTECTION AND
MAY INVALIDATE YOUR HOME INSURANCE.
Please contact the technical support team if any further assistance is required.
General Maintenance
Automatic Testing The valve driver is programmed to automatically close and open the
valve every 24 hours whilst in high guard. This tests both the valve assembly and controls.
Routine Maintenance This system requires minimal maintenance and will only require
the following:
In hard water areas it is recommended that the valve assembly is dismantled and
cleaned with limescale remover every 12 months as build up can cause the unit to
fail
After continued power loss the valve driver back up battery may need replacing. It
is recommended that a suitably qualified engineer changes the battery (3 volt
lithium, size code CR123A) after firstly turning off mains power to the unit

Overview

The Waterguard Home is a language-free water leak prevention system designed to continuously monitor water flow from the incoming supply and automatically shut off the water supply when a predetermined maximum continuous flow time (guard level) has been exceeded. It features two levels of guard: low guard (occupied) and high guard (unoccupied), and includes an integrated back-up battery for continuous power. The system is designed to provide a residential solution for water leak prevention.

Components and Their Functions:

  • Remote Display: This unit serves as the primary interface for users. It awakens the display with a single button press and automatically switches off after 10 seconds. It also allows users to switch between guard levels. The remote display dial adjusts flow time allowances for each guard level.
    • Current Display Meanings:
      • Off: The valve driver has closed the valve.
      • 3-digit number (e.g., 010): The system is set to Low Guard, and the displayed value is the active time.
      • 2-digit number with a decimal point (e.g., 0.1): The system is set to High Guard, and the displayed value is the active time.
      • 3 dashes running across the display: The remote display is communicating with the valve driver.
      • None of the above: The remote display may be damaged or in an error state.
  • Valve Driver: This component operates the basic system functions. It has a button for control and a red LED to indicate the current status of the system.
    • LED Indicator Meanings:
      • Solid red: Unit operating normally.
      • Off, followed by brief flashes: Device running on battery backup.
      • Equal intermittent flashes: The valve driver has closed the valve.
      • Solid red followed by brief flashes: The valve driver has closed the valve as the battery backup requires replacing.

Operating Features:

  • Awakening the Display: A single button press on the remote display awakens it.
  • Switching Guard Levels: A single button press on the remote display switches between guard levels.
  • Inputting Low Guard Level: This level is intended for when people are in the property and water is being used. The guard time can be set from 0 to 30 minutes (displayed as 000 to 030) by rotating the dial. Waterguard recommends a maximum of 20 minutes.
  • Inputting High Guard Level: This is a higher protection level for when the property is unoccupied. The guard time can be set from 0 to 3 minutes (displayed as 0.0 to 3.0, where each decimal point equates to 6 seconds) by rotating the dial. Waterguard recommends a maximum of 2 minutes.
  • Closing the Valve: To close the valve using the remote display, set the time to 0.0 while in high guard.
  • Controlling from the Valve Driver Button:
    • Single short press when valve is closed: This opens the valve and sets the unit to high guard, confirmed by a singular flash and beep.
    • Single short press when valve is open:
      • If in high guard, this switches to low guard level, confirmed by 2 flashes and beeps.
      • If in low guard, this closes the valve, confirmed by 3 flashes and beeps.

Maintenance Features:

  • No Power to Remote Display: If there's a loss of power to the valve controller, it will continue to work normally on battery power for several months. The remote display will be cut off to conserve battery power. Connections to the intruder alarm and/or building management system will continue as normal. Once mains power is restored, the system will operate fully and remember previous guard levels.
  • Valve Not Opening or Closing: If controls are functioning but the valve fails to close, it may be blocked.
  • Manual Bypass: In an emergency, to restore water supply when the controller is damaged or after a long-term loss of mains power, the valve can be manually bypassed. This involves rotating the whole coil head as shown in the diagram. WARNING: This action deactivates water leak protection and may invalidate home insurance.
  • Automatic Testing: The valve driver is programmed to automatically close and open the valve every 24 hours while in high guard. This tests both the valve assembly and controls.
  • Routine Maintenance:
    • In hard water areas, it is recommended that the valve assembly be dismantled and cleaned with limescale remover every 12 months, as build-up can cause the unit to fail.
    • After continued power loss, the valve driver's backup battery may need replacing. It is recommended that a suitably qualified engineer changes the battery (3 volt lithium, size code CR123A) after first turning off mains power to the unit.
