Air Filter
A dirty air filter will block air flow into the carburettor. To prevent carburettor malfunction, service the air filter
regularly. Service more frequently when operating the engine in extremely dusty areas.
1. Remove the air filter housing cover (C). Be careful to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the air
cleaner assembly.
2. Separate the air filter (C) from the air filter housing (A).
3. Inspect the air filter. Clean a dirty air filter with warm water and mild soap. Allow the air filter to dry
thoroughly before re-installation.
4. Install the air filter back to the air filter housing and secure with the air filter housing cover.
WARNING
Never use petrol or low flash point solvents to clean the air filter. A fire or explosion could occur.
CAUTION
Never run the engine without an air filter or rapid engine wear will result.
Spark Plug
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
1. Remove the spark plug cap.
WARNING
If the engine has been running, the exhaust (muffler) will be very hot. Be careful not to touch the exhaust
(muffler).
2. Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard it if the insulator is cracked or chipped.
3. Measure the spark plug gap with a feeler gauge. The gap should be 0.7‐0.8mm (0.028‐0.031 in), correct as
necessary by bending the side electrode.
Check/Add Oil
1. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth.
2. Insert the dipstick into the filler neck without screwing it in.
3. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be in between the MIN. and MAX. levels
on the dipstick.
4. If low, add oil slowly into the engine oil fill tube
(the use of a funnel will aid the filling). Do not overfill.
After adding oil wait one minute and then recheck the oil level.
5. Replace and tighten the dipstick.
Engine Oil Change
Drain the oil while the engine is still warm to assure rapid and complete drainage. The oil must be drained
from the Oil Drain Plug
1. Remove the dipstick.
2. Place an approved container below the oil drain plug.
3. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the approved container.
4. Install oil drain plug and fully tighten.
5. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be in between the MIN. and MAX. levels
on the dipstick.
6. If low, add oil slowly into the engine oil fill tube
(the use of a funnel will aid the filling). Do not overfill.
After adding oil wait one minute and then recheck the oil level.
7. Replace and tighten the dipstick.
• Oil capacity: See Specification section of this manual.
• Wash your hands with soap and water after touching used oil.
NOTE: Please dispose of used motor oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment. We suggest you
put it in a sealed container a take to your local waste recycling centre. Do not throw it away into the refuge
collection or pour it on the ground or in drains.
