Overview

The MT8102iE series HMI (Human Machine Interface) is a device designed for industrial control applications, providing a user interface for monitoring and controlling machinery. This document serves as an installation instruction and startup guide, outlining the necessary steps for setting up and operating the device.

Function Description

The MT8102iE HMI facilitates interaction with industrial control systems, allowing users to visualize data, input commands, and manage processes. It is designed to be integrated into various control environments, offering a robust and reliable interface. The device supports communication with controllers via multiple serial ports (COM1, COM2, COM3) and Ethernet, enabling flexible connectivity options. Project files, created using EasyBuilder Pro software, can be downloaded to the HMI to define its specific functionalities and display layouts.

Important Technical Specifications

  • NEMA Rating: NEMA 4 (Indoor Only), indicating protection against dust, dirt, and splashing water.
  • Electrical Environment: Tested to conform to European CE requirements, designed to resist electrical noise.
  • Power Supply: DC power only, with a voltage range of 24±20% Volts DC. It is compatible with most controller DC systems and features a switching power supply. The peak starting current can be as high as 2A.
  • Mounting: Designed for vertical mounting on a flat surface enclosure.
  • Cutout Dimensions: For the MT8102iE model, the cutout dimensions are 260mm (A) by 202mm (B).
  • Communication Ports:
    • COM1/COM3 (RS232): 9-pin, Male, D-sub connector.
    • COM2/COM3 (RS485): 9-pin, Female, D-sub connector. COM2 and COM3 (RS485) 2-wire support MPI 187.5K, but only one can be used at a time.
    • Ethernet: For project file downloads and network connectivity.
  • Fuse: 1.25A/250V, 5x20mm.
  • Environmental Considerations:
    • Avoid environments with severe mechanical vibration or shocks.
    • Not for use in areas with explosion hazards (flammable gases, vapors, dusts).
    • Not for use where acid gas (e.g., SO2) exists.
    • Conforms to UL508 (ISBN 0-7629-0404-6) machine safety for use in Pollution Degree 2 Environment.
  • System Password: Default system password is 111111.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The HMI is secured using fastening holes, provided brackets, and screws. A screw torque of 2.6 ~ 3.9 lbf.in. is recommended for waterproof effect and to prevent panel deformation.
  • Project Download: Project files are created using EasyBuilder Pro software and downloaded to the HMI via Ethernet. The process involves selecting the HMI's IP address in the software.
  • System Settings: Upon power-up, the HMI displays an image, allowing access to system settings by clicking a dedicated button. This includes network configuration, where users can choose to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP or manually designate one.
  • USB Stick Clamp: A provided USB stick clamp and tying strap prevent accidental disconnection of a USB stick from the HMI, particularly in environments with strong vibration. The USB connector is inserted into the clamp, tied with the strap, and then the assembly is pressed into the HMI's USB port.
  • Jumper Settings: The device includes jumper settings to configure various modes:
    • Touch Screen Calibration Mode (1-2 Short, 3-4 Open, 5-6 Open, 7-8 Open)
    • Hide HMI System Setting Bar (1-2 Open, 3-4 Short, 5-6 Open, 7-8 Open)
    • Boot Loader Mode (1-2 Open, 3-4 Open, 5-6 Short, 7-8 Open)
    • Normal Mode (1-2 Open, 3-4 Open, 5-6 Open, 7-8 Short)
    • Not Supported (1-2 Open, 3-4 Open, 5-6 Open, 7-8 Open)
    • Touch screen calibration mode can also be entered by pressing and holding anywhere on the screen for more than 2 seconds when the HMI starts.
  • Safety Recommendations:
    • A hard-wired EMERGENCY STOP should be fitted in any system using the HMI to comply with ICS Safety Recommendations.
    • Do not power the HMI and inductive DC loads or input circuitry to the controller with the same power supply.
    • Ensure proper isolation from main AC power and similar hazards for DC voltage sources.
    • Minimize power wire length (Max: 500m shielded, 300m unshielded) and use twisted pair cables for power and signal wires.
    • Use appropriate surge suppression devices if wiring is exposed to lightning or surges.
    • Keep AC, high energy, and rapidly switching DC power wiring separated from signal wires.
    • Add a resistor and capacitor (1M Ohm and 4700pF) in parallel connection between the ungrounded DC power supply and the frame ground for static and high-frequency dissipation.
    • When using a USB cable for project download, do not connect the HMI with a PLC and PC simultaneously to prevent potential difference from destroying USB ports.
    • Ensure all writable registers controlling critical parts of plant or machinery have limit checks built into the program, with an out-of-limit safe shutdown procedure.

Maintenance Features

  • Unpacking and Inspection: Upon delivery, the unit should be unpacked and checked for damage. Any damage found should be reported to the supplier.
  • Fuse Replacement: The device includes a replaceable fuse (1.25A/250V, 5x20mm).
  • Troubleshooting Power Issues: If the display does not come on within 5 seconds of power up, power should be removed. An internal fuse prevents damage if DC power polarity is incorrect.
  • Limited Warranty: The product is warranted against defects in design and manufacture for 12 months from the manufacturing month. The warranty does not cover damage from Force Majeure, accident, negligence, improper installation or misuse, repairs by unauthorized technicians, or products with removed/damaged identification markings.
