SAFETY RULES
v.2019.06.07
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Do not plug in your parallel
connection kit or electrical device until the following steps have been read and understood.
SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
1. DO NOT operate in rain, wet or damp conditions, or with wet hands. The operator may suffer severe
electric shock if the generator is wet.
2. If at any point the parallel connection kit becomes wet, wipe and dry the kit well before operation. Do
not pour water on the parallel connection kit or use water to clean the kit.
3. Pay attention to extension cords and all wiring attached to the parallel kit. If any wires are under the
generator or in contact with a vibrating part, it may break, causing a generator burnout and electric shock
hazard. Properly replace damaged cords immediately.
4. Follow all necessary electrical grounding procedures for the parallel kit, connected generators, and
related equipment. The parallel kit is designed to be grounded to provide a path of least resistance for the
electric current, reducing the risk of electric shock in the event of a failure or breakdown. Failure to correctly
ground equipment can cause serious injury or death.
5. DO NOT connect or disconnect parallel kit wires while the generator is running. Only turn on genera-
tors once the parallel kit wires have been properly connected.

Overview

The WEN GNA50i is a 50-Amp Parallel Connection Kit designed to combine the power of two WEN inverter generators, allowing them to operate in parallel to achieve a higher total output. This kit is compatible with all WEN inverter generators, providing a versatile solution for users who require more power than a single generator can provide.

Function Description:

The primary function of the WEN GNA50i parallel connection kit is to link two WEN inverter generators, enabling them to synchronize their power output. This synchronization allows the combined power of both generators to be accessed through the kit's outlets, effectively doubling the available wattage (up to the kit's maximum rated power). This is particularly useful for powering larger appliances, RVs, or job sites that demand more electricity than a single inverter generator can supply. The kit ensures that the combined power is delivered safely and efficiently, with built-in breakers to protect against overloads. It also includes dedicated grounding connections to enhance safety during operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: GNA50i
  • Rated Power: 6000 Watts, 50 Amps
  • Cord Length: 3.3 ft each side (for connecting to generators)
  • Outlets:
    • 1x 120V/50A NEMA 14-50R
    • 1x 120V/30A NEMA L5-30R
  • Weight: 4.4 lbs.
  • Product Dimensions: 13 in. x 9.5 in. x 7.9 in.
  • Breakers: Includes a 50A breaker and a 30A breaker for outlet protection.
  • Maximum Voltage from 14-50R outlet: 120V (cannot pull 240V from it).
  • Compatibility: Compatible with all WEN Inverter Generators.

Usage Features:

The WEN GNA50i kit is designed for straightforward and safe operation.

  1. Placement: The kit should be placed on a dry surface, such as dry ground or on top of one of the generators, to prevent accidental trampling of wires and exposure to moisture.
  2. Connection to Generators: The kit features two sets of wires, each with red and black plugs, which securely connect to the corresponding red and black parallel connection ports on each generator's control panel. Correct connection is crucial for power output.
  3. Grounding: A green wire with a metal ring is provided to attach to each generator's grounding nut. Proper grounding is essential to minimize the risk of electric shock.
  4. Starting Generators: Once all wires are correctly connected, the inverter generators should be started one at a time, following their individual instructions. The generator started first will become the primary generator.
  5. Stabilization: Allow the generators to run for several minutes to stabilize speed and output before plugging in any electrical devices.
  6. Overload Protection: The kit has a total rated power of 6000W (50A). Users must not overload the receptacles to prevent damage or safety hazards.
  7. Voltage Output: While the NEMA 14-50R outlet is typically capable of 120V/240V, with this kit, the maximum voltage available from the 14-50R outlet is 120V. It cannot supply 240V.
  8. Safety Warnings: Users are explicitly warned against operating the kit in rain, wet, or damp conditions, or with wet hands, due to the risk of severe electric shock. If the kit becomes wet, it must be wiped and dried thoroughly before operation. It is also critical to pay attention to extension cords and wiring, ensuring no wires are under the generator or in contact with vibrating parts, which could lead to breakage, burnout, and electric shock. All necessary electrical grounding procedures for the parallel kit, connected generators, and related equipment must be followed. Crucially, the parallel kit wires should not be connected or disconnected while the generators are running; generators should only be turned on once the kit wires are properly connected.

Maintenance Features:

The manual provides guidance on proper storage and disposal to ensure the longevity of the product and minimize environmental impact.

  • Storage: When not in use, the parallel kit should be disconnected from the inverters. The cords should be bound around the kit body, and the kit should be placed back into its original packaging for storage in a well-ventilated, dry area. If the kit is left with the inverter, the cords should still be bound together to prevent trampling of the plugs and cords.
  • Disposal: At the end of its lifetime, the product should not be disposed of with household waste. It contains components that should be recycled, and users are advised to take it to a local recycling facility for responsible disposal to minimize its environmental impact.
  • Warranty: WEN Products offers a limited warranty for home use, covering defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase or 500 hours of use (whichever comes first). For professional or commercial use, the warranty period is 90 days. Purchasers have 30 days from the date of purchase to report missing or damaged parts. The warranty is void if the product has been subjected to misuse, alteration, careless handling, misrepair, abuse, neglect, normal wear and tear, improper maintenance, or other conditions adversely affecting the product. To make a warranty claim, a copy of the proof of purchase (with date and place of purchase from a direct vendor of Great Lakes Technologies, LLC) is required. Purchases through third-party vendors (e.g., garage sales, pawn shops) void the warranty. Items that wear out from regular usage over time (belts, brushes, blades, batteries) are not covered by this limited warranty. The warranty applies only to items sold within the United States of America, Canada, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. For warranty coverage in other countries, customers should contact the WEN customer support line. Additional shipping charges may apply for warranty parts or products shipped to addresses outside of the contiguous United States.
