What to do if my West Marine AE3032 does not hold air while inflating?

  First, ensure the plunger is closed for inflation by pushing it in and rotating counter-clockwise. Confirm you're using a bellows foot pump or a double action hand pump, as a 12-V electric pump may not provide enough pressure. If the kayak still loses air, check for pinholes or holes in the tube by pulling the tube from outer covers and inflating it. If you cannot see or hear where a leak may be, use a clean rag with soapy water and begin rubbing the tube. If a hole is present, bubbles will continually form. Repair using repair kit; for small pinholes, a dab of glue may suffice.

Why won't my West Marine Boat hold full pressure for more than a couple of hours?

  Ensure the plunger is in the closed position, as it should only be open when deflating. If it's open, the only seal is the black rubber gasket inside the cap, and some air may still leak out.

  A kayak will always head in the direction of your last stroke. If the tube is not aligned inside of the cover, this will also cause drift.

  After inflating the kayak, turn it upside down and leave it out in the sun for approximately ten minutes. The fin will conform to its original shape. Even if it is slightly bent, it will not affect the kayak's performance.

  The tube just needs to be adjusted. When the kayak is fully deflated, try adjusting the position of the tube inside of the outer shell.
