This document describes the Westward 15-23/64" Cable Crimper, model CQL879, designed for crimping non-insulated connectors.

Function Description:

The Westward 15-23/64" Cable Crimper is a hand-operated tool used to securely join electrical cables to connectors (lugs or splices) by deforming the connector around the cable, creating a strong mechanical and electrical connection. It is specifically designed for non-insulated connectors within a specified range of cable sizes. The crimper features a rotating die mechanism that allows users to select the appropriate die setting based on the cable size and the corresponding color-coded bands on the connector.

Usage Features:

Safety First: Users are strongly advised to read the instructions before use and wear ANSI approved eye protection to prevent severe eye injury from flying debris.
Live Circuits Warning: A critical danger warning states: "Do not use on or near live circuits. Contact with live circuits could result in severe electrical shock and/or death."
Handle Restrictions: A caution explicitly states: "Do not use with any other extended handles."
Scope of Use: The tool should not be used beyond its intended usage scope.
Preparation: Before crimping, the cable insulation must be removed according to the instructions supplied with the lug or splice, ensuring individual strands are not cut or nicked.
Die Selection: The crimper features a rotating die. To select the correct die setting, the tool is opened to its widest point, the die post mechanism is depressed, and the die is rotated to match the cable size and the colored dot at the top of the die to the cable size and colored bands of the connector. This process is repeated for the opposite die, ensuring both dies match.
Connector Insertion: The appropriate connector is inserted between the color-coded bands closest to the tongue for lugs, or between the center marks for splices.
Moving Parts: Users are cautioned to keep hands away from moving and closing parts during operation.
Storage: Anti-rust oil or grease may be coated on the surface of the blade edges when the crimper is not in use to prevent corrosion.

Maintenance Features:

Impact and Removal Restrictions: Crimpers are strictly prohibited from collision, impact, and optional removal of parts.
Environmental Conditions: The crimper should not be kept in wet places and cannot be used in sulfuric acid or corrosive gas environments.
Screw Check: Regularly check the screws of the cover plate to ensure that no screws are loose.
