Overview

The WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers are essential components for managing electrical power in recreational vehicles (RVs). These units are designed to distribute both AC and DC power throughout the RV, ensuring that all appliances and systems receive the necessary electrical supply. Unlike some other power centers, the WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers do not include an integrated converter/charger; instead, they are designed to work in conjunction with an external converter/charger, such as a WF-9800 Series Converter/Charger, which is typically located elsewhere in the RV. This modular design allows for greater flexibility in RV power system configurations.

Function Description

The primary function of the WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers is to serve as the central hub for power distribution within an RV. They manage the flow of both 120/240 Volt AC power from shore power or an onboard generator and 12 Volt DC power from an external converter/charger or the RV's battery.

For AC power, the distribution center houses standard residential circuit breakers. The WF-8930/50NP model can accommodate two 50 Amp (or one 30 Amp) main breakers and up to 12 branch breakers when using duplex breakers. The WF-8930/50NP-30 model is designed for a 30 Amp main breaker and up to 6 branch breakers, also with duplex breakers. These AC breakers protect the various AC circuits in the RV, such as outlets, air conditioners, and other high-power appliances, from overcurrent conditions.

For DC power, the unit features a DC fuse board with 15 individual DC circuits. These circuits distribute 12 Volt power to various DC loads in the RV, including lights, water pumps, fans, and other low-power electronics. The DC fuse board has dedicated lugs for connecting the external converter/charger and the RV battery, ensuring a continuous supply of DC power.

Usage Features

The WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers are designed for straightforward use and integration into an RV's electrical system.

  • AC Circuit Breakers: The AC side of the unit accepts standard residential circuit breakers, making them easily replaceable and widely available. Users can select appropriate breaker sizes based on the loads they intend to power, with options for both single and duplex breakers. The main breakers are typically installed in the center position, and a hold-down clip is provided to secure them. Wiring diagrams are included in the manual to guide proper connection of shore power, main breakers, and branch circuits.
  • DC Fuses: The DC fuse board is located on the right side of the enclosure and provides connections for 15 branch circuits. Fuses should be replaced with ATC or ATO automotive-type fuses of the correct rating. Circuits F1 and F2 are designed for higher current loads like slide-outs, accommodating up to a 30 Amp fuse, while the remaining 13 circuits are general purpose and can use up to a 20 Amp fuse.
  • External Converter/Charger Integration: Since the distribution center does not have an internal converter/charger, it relies on an external unit for DC power conversion and battery charging. The manual provides guidance on connecting the positive and negative leads from the external converter/charger and the RV battery to the designated lugs on the DC fuse board.
  • Mounting and Installation: The enclosure is designed to be mounted in an accessible area within the RV, such as a wall or cabinet, preferably near the shore power entrance and battery. The mounting location should be chosen to prevent exposure to excessive heat, water, moisture, dust, and dirt. The unit requires a rough opening of specific dimensions (12 3/16" W x 8 3/16" H and 3" deep) and is secured with wood screws. Knockouts are provided for routing AC power cords and DC load wires, with strain reliefs for secure connections.
  • Compliance: The WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers are UL-Listed and cUL-Listed (Canadian), ensuring they meet recognized safety standards for electrical equipment.

Maintenance Features

The WF-8930/50 Series Distribution Centers incorporate features that aid in troubleshooting and maintenance, making it easier for users to identify and resolve electrical issues.

  • Blown Fuse Indicators: A key maintenance feature is the individual blown fuse indicators on the DC fuse board. Each of the 15 DC circuits has a small Red LED. If a fuse blows due to an overcurrent condition, the corresponding Red LED will illuminate, making it easy to identify which fuse needs replacement. It's important to note that these are surface-mount LEDs and may be barely visible to the naked eye. If a replacement fuse blows again, it indicates a short or overload condition in that circuit, requiring further investigation.
  • Troubleshooting Guidance: The manual provides detailed troubleshooting instructions. For DC power issues, it advises checking the converter/charger's input voltage and operation, as well as verifying the voltage at the fuse board's input lugs using a voltmeter. It also suggests checking for open in-line fuses or disconnect switches installed by the RV manufacturer. For blown fuse indicators, it clarifies that an LED will not illuminate if the load switch is OFF or the appliance is OFF, even if the fuse is blown or removed. Users are instructed to turn on the switch or appliance to re-check the circuit. If an LED remains illuminated with a known good fuse, it may indicate damage to the fuse board itself, which would require replacement.
  • Warranty and Support: The product comes with a Two-Year Limited Product Warranty, covering defects in material and workmanship under normal use. In case of a defect, users are advised to contact an authorized OEM dealer or Arterra Distribution for warranty assistance. A Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number is required for returns, and specific instructions are provided for obtaining this number and packaging the product for return. The warranty specifically excludes damage from misuse, faulty installation, unauthorized repairs, or products with defaced serial numbers.
  • Wiring Accessibility: The design of the enclosure, with its removable door assembly, allows for access to the internal wiring and components, facilitating installation, inspection, and maintenance tasks. All terminal connections should be torqued to the specifications listed on the back of the door assembly to ensure secure and safe electrical connections.
