Battery Installation:
Your Wheeler
®
Digital Trigger Gauge comes fully assembled
and precisely calibrated from the factory. To use, simply
install 2 AAA batteries by following the steps below.
1. Locate and remove the Phillips head screw
holding the cover on the back side of the unit.
2. Once the cover is removed, place two AAA batteries
into the housing so that the negative side is against
the spring.
3. Replace t he cover and tighten the screw hand tight.
NOTE: Over tightening can damage the device.
The Digital Trigger Gauge will automatically power off after
10 minutes of inactivity.
When the battery power in the device is low, a low battery
icon will display on the upper right corner of the screen.
When this appears, replace the batteries to ensure readings
are accurate.
Usage:
1. Once batteries are installed in the device, press the
button in the center to power it on. The screen
will light up and should display all zeros.
NOTE: Avoid applying any force to the sensor when
turning on the scale
2. Press the UNITS button to change between Pounds/
Ounces and Kilograms as desired.
3. Rotate the arm 180° out of the storage position until
it snaps into the upright position.
4. The arm may also be twisted 90 degrees to increase
clearance around some gunstocks. (PHOTO1)
NOTE: Always twist the arm back before folding.
Attempting to fold the arm in the twisted
position can permanently damage the product.

NOTE: The Digital Trigger Gauge was designed to
provide the most accurate reading possible
regardless of the position of the arm. By using
a ball joint, errors from pulling at a slight angle
can be minimized.
NOTE: The Digital Trigger Gauge
has a bladed trigger adapter to
allow its use with triggers that
have internal safety blades such
as: Glock
®
, Ruger
®
, Savage
®
and other manufacturers.

Overview

The Wheeler Professional Digital Trigger Gauge is a precision instrument designed for gunsmithing and firearm maintenance, allowing users to accurately measure trigger pull weight. It features a digital display and is capable of measuring in Pounds/Ounces and Kilograms.

Function Description:

The device operates in two primary modes: Peak and Live.

  • Peak Function: This mode captures and holds the maximum force recorded during each trigger pull. It automatically calculates and displays the maximum, minimum, and average pull weights over a series of measurements. These calculations remain in memory until the unit is powered off or manually cleared. This mode is ideal for evaluating the consistency and weight of a trigger pull over multiple attempts.
  • Live Function: In this mode, the device provides a real-time reading of the force applied to the sensor. It does not hold a peak value, making it suitable for observing the immediate force being exerted.

The trigger gauge is equipped with a bladed trigger adapter, which allows it to be used with triggers that have internal safety blades, such as those found in Glock®, Ruger®, and Savage® firearms. This adapter sits over the top of the trigger sensor, providing a flatter profile for accurate measurement on these specific trigger types.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Measurement Units: Pounds/Ounces (lbs/oz) and Kilograms (kg).
  • Maximum Reading: 12.0 lbs (5.45 kg). Exceeding this force can cause permanent damage to the sensor.
  • Power Source: 2 AAA batteries.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The device automatically powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
  • Low Battery Indicator: A low battery icon will display on the screen when battery power is low, indicating that batteries should be replaced for accurate readings.

Usage Features:

  • Battery Installation: Requires the removal of a Phillips head screw to access the battery compartment. Two AAA batteries are inserted with the negative side against the spring. The cover is then replaced and tightened hand-tight. Over-tightening can damage the device.
  • Power On/Off: The device is powered on by pressing the central button. The screen will light up and display zeros. Users should avoid applying force to the sensor when turning it on.
  • Unit Selection: The "UNITS" button allows users to switch between Pounds/Ounces and Kilograms.
  • Arm Rotation: The measurement arm can be rotated 180° from its storage position until it snaps into an upright position. For increased clearance around certain gunstocks, the arm can also be twisted 90 degrees. It is crucial to twist the arm back to its original orientation before folding it, as attempting to fold it in the twisted position can cause permanent damage. The ball joint design minimizes errors from pulling at slight angles, ensuring accurate readings regardless of arm position.
  • Mode Selection: The "MODE" button switches between Peak and Live functions. The active mode is displayed on the LCD.
  • Taking Measurements (Peak Mode):
    1. Ensure "PEAK" is displayed.
    2. Cock the firearm.
    3. Slowly pull the trigger until it trips.
    4. Press "ENTER" to accept the reading and include it in calculations. Pressing "DELETE" voids the reading.
    5. After accepting or deleting, the scale returns to zero, ready for the next reading.
    6. The number of accepted readings (N=XX) is displayed, with a recommendation of using at least three to five readings for an accurate average.
  • Taking Measurements (Live Mode):
    1. Ensure "LIVE" is displayed.
    2. Applying force to the sensor will show the live reading, which returns to zero when the load is removed.
  • Clearing Calculations: Pressing and holding the "DELETE" button for 2 seconds clears all calculations.
  • Trigger Finger Placement: A tip suggests placing the trigger finger over the back side of the sensor housing for precise control during the trigger pull.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: When the low battery icon appears, replace the AAA batteries to maintain reading accuracy.
  • Storage: The arm can be folded into a storage position. Always twist the arm back to its original orientation before folding to prevent damage.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always ensure the firearm is unloaded before using the trigger gauge.
  • Trigger modifications can potentially cause the rifle to malfunction. Trigger modifications should only be performed by competent gunsmiths.
  • Do not overtighten the battery cover screw, as this can damage the device.
  • Avoid applying force to the sensor when turning on the scale.
  • Do not exceed the maximum reading of 12.0 lbs (5.45 kg), as this can cause permanent damage to the sensor.
