Do you have a question about the Whirlpool Inglis IS22AGXTQ00 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the Inglis Refrigerator, manufactured by Whirlpool Corporation, covering its use, care, and maintenance. It is designed to help users operate the appliance safely and efficiently, and to troubleshoot common issues.

Function Description

The Inglis Refrigerator is a major appliance designed for food preservation through refrigeration and freezing. It features separate controls for the refrigerator and freezer compartments, allowing users to adjust temperatures to optimal settings for various food items. Some models include a convertible drawer for specific chilling of meats or vegetables, and a water and ice dispenser with options for crushed or cubed ice. The refrigerator also incorporates a water filtration system to improve the quality of dispensed water and ice.

Important Technical Specifications

Electrical Requirements: The refrigerator requires a 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply. A separate circuit is recommended for optimal performance. It is crucial to plug the appliance into a grounded 3-prong outlet and avoid using adapters or extension cords to prevent electrical shock hazards.

Water Supply Requirements (for models with ice maker and dispenser): A cold water supply with a pressure between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa) is necessary for the water dispenser and ice maker to function properly. If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is connected, the water pressure to the system should be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa). The water line connection typically uses 1/4" (6.35 mm) copper tubing.

Water Filtration System (Base Grille Water Filtration System):

  • Models: WF-NL240/NL240 (Capacity 240 Gallons / 908 Liters) and WF-L400/L400 (Capacity 400 Gallons / 1514 Liters).
  • Certifications: Tested and certified by NSF International against ANSI/NSF Standard 42 for the reduction of Chlorine Taste and Odor, Particulate Class II; and against ANSI/NSF Standard 53 for the reduction of Lead.
  • Performance Data:
    • Chlorine Taste/Odor Reduction: ≥50% (average 97.4%). Influent concentration: 2.0 mg/L ± 10%. Effluent: 0.05 mg/L.
    • Particulate Class II Reduction: ≥85% (average 95.1%). Influent concentration: at least 10,000 particles/mL. Effluent: 100,000 particles/mL.
    • Lead Reduction:
      • At pH 6.5: 0.01 mg/L (average 99.3%). Influent: 0.15 mg/L ± 10%. Effluent: 0.001 mg/L.
      • At pH 8.5: 0.01 mg/L (average 99.0%). Influent: 0.15 mg/L ± 10%. Effluent: 0.003 mg/L.
  • Test Parameters: pH = 7.5 ± 0.5, Flow = 0.5 gpm (1.9 Lpm), Pressure = 60 psig (413.7 kPa), Temperature = 63°F (17.2°C).
  • Service Flow Rate: 0.5 gpm (1.9 Lpm) @ 60 psi.
  • Water Temperature: 33°F - 100°F (0.6°C - 37.8°C).
  • Filter Replacement: Recommended every 6 months for WF-NL240 and when the filter indicator light turns red for WF-L400 (or sooner if water flow significantly decreases).

Dimensions and Installation: A minimum of 1/2" (1.25 cm) space on each side and at the top is required for proper ventilation. When installing next to a fixed wall, allow 2" (5.08 cm) minimum on each side for the door to swing open. Extra space at the back is needed for water line connections if an ice maker is present. The refrigerator should not be installed near heat sources or in locations where temperatures fall below 55°F (13°C).

Usage Features

Refrigerator and Freezer Controls: The controls are factory preset to "mid-settings." Adjusting the Refrigerator Control affects the refrigerator compartment temperature, while the Freezer Control affects the freezer compartment. Moving settings to the left makes the temperature less cold, and to the right makes it colder. It is recommended to wait 24 hours after installation or adjustment before adding food or making further adjustments.

Convertible Drawer Temperature Control (on some models): This control allows for specific chilling of meats (28°F to 32°F / -2°C to 0°C) or vegetables. The control comes preset at the lowest meat setting. Users can adjust it to one of three MEAT settings or to a VEG setting for optimal storage.

Crisper Humidity Control (on some models): Users can adjust the humidity level in the moisture-sealed crisper between LOW (open) for fruits and vegetables with skins, and HIGH (closed) for fresh, leafy vegetables.

Water and Ice Dispensers (on some models):

  • Ice Options: Select between crushed or cubed ice.
  • Dispenser Light: A special light turns on when the dispenser is used.
  • Lock Option: Prevents unintentional dispensing.
  • Flushing the System: After connecting to a water source, flush 1.5 gallons (5.4 L) of water (or for 3 minutes) to clear air and clean the system.
  • Ice Production: Allow 24 hours for the first batch of ice and 3 days to completely fill the ice container. Discard the first three batches of ice.
  • Safety: Use a sturdy glass when dispensing ice to prevent cuts.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • General Cleaning: Disconnect power before cleaning. Use a clean sponge or soft cloth with mild detergent and warm water for removable parts and internal surfaces.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Stainless steel or painted metal exteriors can be cleaned with a clean sponge or soft cloth and mild detergent in warm water.
  • Condenser Cleaning: Under normal operating conditions, the condenser does not require frequent cleaning. However, in greasy, dusty environments or homes with pets, it should be cleaned every two to three months for maximum efficiency. To clean, remove the base grille and use a soft brush vacuum attachment to clean the grille, open areas behind the grille, and the front surface of the condenser.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids, abrasive cleaners, window sprays, scouring cleansers, concentrated detergents, bleach, or petroleum-based cleaners on plastic parts, interior door liners, or gaskets, as these can damage the refrigerator's surface.

Light Bulb Replacement:

  • Disconnect power before replacing light bulbs.
  • Replace bulbs with the same size, shape, and wattage. Some dispenser lights require a 10-watt heavy-duty bulb, while other lamps require a 40-watt bulb.
  • Clean the light shield with warm water and liquid detergent.

Water Filter Replacement:

  • WF-NL240: Replace the cartridge at least every 6 months.
  • WF-L400: The filter monitor system indicates when to replace the filter. The indicator light changes from green to yellow when 90% of the filter's rated life is used, and from yellow to red when 100% of the life is used.
  • Ordering Replacement Filters: Call 1-800-442-9991 or contact an authorized Whirlpool dealer. Part numbers are #4396508 for the Standard Base Filter Cartridge (NL240/L400).

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a "Troubleshooting" section to help users diagnose and resolve common issues such as the refrigerator not operating, excessive motor noise, doors not closing properly, and dispenser malfunctions. It provides solutions for temperature and humidity problems, ice and water dispenser issues, and water leaks.

Warranty: The Inglis Refrigerator comes with a One Year Limited Warranty from Whirlpool Corporation, covering factory-specified parts and repair labor for defects in materials or workmanship. This warranty applies when the appliance is operated and maintained according to instructions and used in the country of purchase. It excludes service calls for installation issues, consumable parts (like light bulbs and filters), damage from misuse or accidents, food loss, and repairs outside the home or in remote locations.
