Overview

This document is the User Instructions manual for a Whirlpool Refrigerator, model W10439277C. It provides comprehensive information on safety, installation, usage, maintenance, smart features, troubleshooting, and warranty.

Function Description

The Whirlpool Refrigerator is a major appliance designed for indoor household use, providing cooling and freezing capabilities for food storage. It features a water and ice dispenser, an ice maker, and, on some models, a convertible drawer with temperature control and crisper humidity control. The refrigerator also incorporates "Smart Grid" and "Smart Features" for enhanced energy management and remote monitoring.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Electrical Requirements: 115 volt, 60 Hz, AC only, 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply. A separate circuit is recommended.
  • Water Pressure: Cold water supply between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa) is required for the water dispenser and ice maker. For reverse osmosis systems, pressure to the refrigerator's water inlet valve should be between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa), with the system itself having a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa).
  • Temperature Ranges:
    • Refrigerator Set Point: 33°F to 45°F (0°C to 7°C).
    • Freezer Set Point: -5°F to 5°F (-21°C to -15°C).
    • Recommended Room Temperature: 60°F (15°C) to 90°F (32°C).
    • Operating Room Temperature: 55°F (13°C) to 110°F (43°C).
  • Water Filtration System (Model P5WB2L/P4RFWB):
    • Capacity: 200 Gallons (757 Liters).
    • Rated Service Flow: 0.5 gpm (1.9 Lpm) @ 60 psi.
    • Certifications: NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 (Chlorine Taste and Odor, Particulate Class I) and Standard 53 (Live Cysts, Asbestos, Lead, Lindane, Toxaphene, Atrazine, 2,4-D).
    • Water Temperature: 33°F - 100°F (0.6° - 37.8°C).
  • Installation Clearances:
    • 1/2" (1.27 cm) space on each side and at the top.
    • 1" (2.54 cm) space behind the refrigerator.
    • Minimum 2" (5.08 cm) space on each side next to a fixed wall for door swing.
    • Normal minimum cabinet cut-out width: 36" (91.44 cm). If crisper pan removal is desired next to an extended wall, an additional 18" (45.72 cm) of cabinet width is required, for a total of 54" (137.16 cm).

Usage Features

  • Controls: Refrigerator and freezer controls are located on the dispenser panel. The display screen enters "sleep" mode after 2 minutes of inactivity.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Factory preset to 37°F (3°C) for the refrigerator and 0°F (-18°C) for the freezer. Adjustments should be made in 1° increments, with 24-hour waiting periods between changes.
  • Cooling On/Off: Cooling can be turned off by pressing and holding SMART GRID and FILTER buttons for 3 seconds.
  • Fast Ice: Increases ice production for 24 hours during temporary periods of heavy ice use. Activated by pressing the FAST ICE button.
  • Door Ajar Alarm: Sounds an alarm if a door is open for 5 minutes (and cooling is on), repeating every 2 minutes. Mute by pressing any control panel button.
  • Convertible Drawer Temperature Control (on some models): Allows adjustment for optimal storage of meats (28° to 32°F / -2° to 0°C) or vegetables.
  • Crisper Humidity Control (on some models): Adjustable between LOW (open for fruits/vegetables with skins) and HIGH (closed for fresh, leafy vegetables).
  • Chilled Door Bin (on some models): Control located on the left-hand side of the refrigerator compartment to adjust cold air flow to the bin.
  • Water Dispenser: Dispenses chilled water. Requires flushing the water system after installation or filter replacement (3 gallons / 12 liters recommended).
  • Ice Dispenser: Dispenses crushed or cubed ice. Select type using the ICE TYPE button.
  • Ice Maker: Produces ice, with an automatic shutoff to prevent overfilling. On/Off switch is located on the freezer door, accessible after removing the ice storage bin.
  • Dispenser Light: Automatically turns on when dispensing. Can be set to ON, DIM, or OFF using the LIGHT button.
  • Dispenser Lock: Deactivates controls and dispenser pads for cleaning or to prevent unintentional dispensing. Activated/deactivated by pressing and holding TEMP and FAST ICE buttons for 3 seconds.
  • Smart Grid Features:
    • Smart Delay: Adjusts cooling operations, defrost cycles, and high energy-consuming features during peak energy times to save money.

  • Lights: Interior and dispenser lights are LEDs and cannot be changed. If not working, contact customer service.
  • Vacation Care:
    • Refrigerator On: Use up perishables, freeze other items. Turn off water supply to ice maker. Empty ice bin.
    • Refrigerator Off: Remove all food, turn off water supply to ice maker (one day ahead), empty ice bin, turn off refrigerator control, clean thoroughly, prop doors open with rubber/wood blocks to prevent odors/mold.
  • Moving Care: Turn off water supply to ice maker (one day ahead), disconnect water line, empty ice bin, remove all food, turn off refrigerator control, unplug, clean thoroughly, secure removable parts, adjust leveling legs, tape doors and power cord.
  • Air Filter (on some models): Reduces odors. Replace every 6 months or when the status indicator changes from white to red. Install behind the vented door in the top-rear or left interior wall.
