Overview

This document serves as the instruction manual for the WILD EDGE 40V 2.0AH Li-Ion Cordless Reel Mower, Model No. SL40CRM. It provides comprehensive information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The WILD EDGE SL40CRM is a cordless reel mower designed for cutting grass. It operates on a 40V Lithium-Ion battery, offering cordless convenience for lawn maintenance. The reel mower design typically provides a clean, scissor-like cut, which is beneficial for grass health. It features adjustable cutting heights to suit different lawn conditions and user preferences. The mower is equipped with safety features such as a safety lock-out button and a safety key to prevent accidental starting. An optional grass bag is available to collect clippings, allowing for a cleaner finish. The handle is foldable for easy storage and transport. The device also incorporates an "Over current protection" system that stops the motor if the blade gets jammed, clogged, or overloaded, ensuring safety and preventing damage to the motor.

Usage Features:

The mower is designed for straightforward operation and user safety.

  • Assembly: The manual details a step-by-step assembly process, including attaching the lower and upper handles, connecting the handle cable, securing it with cable clips, and attaching the grass bag (if desired). Users are explicitly warned not to insert the battery pack until assembly is complete.
  • Starting the Mower: To start, the safety key must be inserted, the Safety Lock-out Button (2) pressed and held, and the Operation Lever (1) pulled upward to the handle. The Safety Lock-out Button can be released once the motor starts.
  • Stopping the Mower: Releasing the Operation Lever (1) immediately switches off the motor.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The mower offers three cutting height levels (Low, Medium, High). To adjust, the battery pack must be removed, and the grass bag detached. The two adjusting knobs on the machine body frame are loosened to allow movement of the metal height adjustment plate. The plate is then slid to the desired position, aligning with stop blocks and a strip-type groove for secure fixing, and the knobs are tightened. The manual provides detailed illustrations for each height setting.
  • Handlebar Operation Angle Adjustment: To optimize the user experience and cutting performance, the handlebar angle can be adjusted to match the selected cutting height. There are three angle point holes on the Handle Fixed Wing (6) corresponding to 'LOW', 'MED', and 'HIGH' cutting heights. Both sides of the handlebar must be locked into the same position angle point holes.
  • Battery Loading and Removal: The battery pack (11) is inserted into the battery cavity after opening the Battery Case Cover (9) until the Battery Lock Button (12) engages. To remove, the Battery Release Button (13) is pulled down while withdrawing the battery pack. Users are cautioned to watch their fingers due to the tight fit.
  • Charging the Battery: The charger (11) is plugged into an AC power outlet, indicated by a green light (13). The battery pack (3) is then inserted into the charger. A red light (12) indicates charging, and a green light (13) indicates a full charge (approximately 120 minutes).
  • Mowing Operation: For optimal results, the mower should be pushed in straight lines at a deliberate walking pace, with overlapping passes. If the motor's pitch changes dramatically, it indicates overloading. In such cases, the cutting height should be increased, or the mowing speed reduced. The "Over current protection" system will stop the mower if it is overloaded, jammed, or clogged. The mower should only be restarted after clearing obstacles, adjusting the cutting height to its highest position, or waiting for wet grass to dry.
  • Grass Bag Usage: The optional Grass Bag (7) collects clippings and attaches to hooks on the mower and by a strap to the handle.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the mower.

  • Safety First: Before any adjustment or cleaning, the safety key, battery, and grass bag must be removed. Gardening gloves should always be worn when handling or working near the sharp blades.
  • General Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned with a soft brush or cloth. Abrasive materials, water, solvents, or polish should not be used. The mower should not be immersed in water or used on wet ground.
  • Blade Adjustment and Lubrication: Blades are pre-adjusted but may require realignment if the cut is uneven or the mower is hard to push. Adjustment involves turning two adjustment nuts on the cutting bar. Clockwise tightens (moves closer to the blade), and anti-clockwise loosens (moves further away). This is a sensitive procedure, with 1/16 inch considered a major adjustment. Equal adjustment on both sides is crucial to prevent damage. The manual suggests checking adjustment by inserting a piece of paper between the cutting cylinder and straight blade; a clean cut indicates proper adjustment. For smooth performance, oil or spray lubricant can be applied to the straight blade edge and shaft bearings.
  • Storage: Before storing, the battery should be removed, and the blade area cleaned of grass cuttings and debris. The unit should be stored in a dry place, out of reach of children. The blades should be oiled. The battery should be charged after each use and every three months if stored for long periods. For compact storage, the handles can be removed by disconnecting the power cord and flexing the lower handles from the frame locating lugs.
  • Battery Care: The battery should be charged before first use and whenever power diminishes. The new battery requires 12 hours of charging for the first three uses, then approximately 120 minutes for subsequent charges. It's important to allow a hot battery to cool before charging and to charge within the 50°F - 95°F temperature range (optimal at 75°F). Overcharging for extended periods (over 30 days without use) should be avoided to prolong battery life. The battery will reach optimum performance after being cycled 3 times.
  • Charger Care: The charger plug must match the outlet and should never be modified. Only the provided charger should be used for the specified battery type. After charging, the charger should be unplugged, and the battery pack removed. The charger cord should not be used to carry the charger or disconnect it from the socket, and it should be kept away from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Non-rechargeable batteries should not be charged. If the charger cord is damaged, it should not be used.
  • Safety Key: The mower locking key should be removed before storage after each operation to prevent accidental starts and should not be lost.

Important Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes reading all instructions carefully and understanding them before use. It warns against allowing children or unfamiliar persons to operate the machine and advises storing it out of reach of children. Operators should wear substantial footwear and long trousers, and avoid operating barefoot or in open sandals. The mowing area should be thoroughly inspected for foreign objects. Blades, blade bolts, and cutter assembly should be visually inspected for wear or damage before use. Mowing should only occur in daylight or good artificial light, and wet grass should be avoided. The manual provides specific warnings for working on banks, advising against excessively steep slopes, ensuring good footing, mowing across slopes, and exercising caution when changing direction. It also warns against pulling the mower towards oneself and tilting the machine unnecessarily when starting in long grass. Hands and feet should be kept away from rotating parts and the discharge opening. The machine should never be picked up or carried while the motor is running. Regular checks of nuts, bolts, screws, and the grass catcher are recommended for safe working condition. Replacement cutting means must be of the correct type. Gardening gloves should always be worn when handling sharp blades. The manual also includes warnings regarding electromagnetic fields and potential interference with medical implants, advising consultation with a physician.
