This document describes the Wisenet 4/16 Channel Network Video Encoder, models SPE-420 and SPE-1630, providing a quick guide to their features, installation, and maintenance.
Function Description
The Wisenet Network Video Encoder is designed to convert analog video signals into digital IP video streams, enabling the integration of traditional analog cameras into modern IP-based surveillance systems. This allows users to leverage existing analog camera infrastructure while benefiting from the advanced features and scalability of network video. The encoders facilitate remote monitoring, recording, and management of video feeds over a network.
The SPE-420 is a 4-channel network video encoder, meaning it can process video streams from up to four analog cameras simultaneously. The SPE-1630 is a 16-channel network video encoder, capable of handling up to sixteen analog camera inputs. Both models are integral components for hybrid surveillance systems, bridging the gap between analog and digital video technologies.

SPE-1630:
- Channels: 16-channel network video encoder.
- Included Accessories: Network Video Encoder unit, Power Adapter, Power Cord, User Manual or Quick Manual, Bracket Fixing Screws, Bracket Rack, Rubber foot pads.
- Connectivity: Features numerous BNC inputs for analog cameras (CH1-CH16), audio input/output, alarm input/output, RS-485 for PTZ control, Ethernet port for network connection, and a power input.
- Network Integration: Connects to a network via an Ethernet port, allowing for remote access and management. It supports connection to a broadband router for internet access.
- Power: Includes a dedicated power adapter and power cord.
- Compatibility: Supports connection to a PC, speakers, microphones, and a monitor for local setup and viewing.
- SSM Compatibility: The SPE-1630 is compatible with Wisenet's Smart Security Manager (SSM) software. For SSM 2.0 or lower, the device type is "NWC" (Network Video Converter). For SSM 2.1 or higher, the device type is "Encoder." This indicates its integration capabilities within Wisenet's broader surveillance ecosystem.
Usage Features
Connecting with Other Devices (SPE-420 & SPE-1630):
Both encoders offer comprehensive connectivity options for various surveillance components:
- Cameras: Analog cameras connect directly to the BNC inputs.
- Audio: Microphones connect to audio input ports, and speakers connect to audio output ports, enabling two-way audio communication or audio monitoring.
- Network: An Ethernet cable connects the encoder to a network switch or router, providing IP connectivity.
- Local Monitoring: A monitor can be connected via HDMI (SPE-420) or other video outputs for local display of video feeds.
- Control: A PC can be connected to the network to manage the encoder and view live or recorded video.
- Peripherals: Amplifiers can be connected to enhance audio output. Alarm inputs and outputs allow integration with external alarm systems.
Network Wiring Diagram:
The typical setup involves connecting the encoder to a broadband router via an Ethernet cable. The broadband router then connects to the internet, allowing remote access to the encoder and its video streams. A local PC can also be connected to the same network for direct management.
Connecting to the Encoder:
- Launch Internet Browser: Open a web browser on a connected PC.
- Type IP Address: Enter the IP address of the encoder in the browser's address bar.
- IPv4: The default IP address is
192.168.1.100.
- IPv6: An example IPv6 address is
2001:230:abcd:ffff:0000:0000:ffff:1111.
- Login: A login dialog will appear, prompting for a username and password.
Password Setting:
Upon first access or after a factory reset, users must set a new password.
- Password Requirements:
- Minimum 8 to 9 digits, using at least 3 of the following: uppercase/lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
- For passwords with 10 to 15 digits, at least 2 types of characters are required.
- Special characters are allowed:
~!@#$%^&*()_-+=|\:;'"<>?,/
- Spaces are not allowed.
- Security: For higher security, it is recommended not to repeat the same characters or consecutive keyboard inputs.
- Reset: If a password is lost, the encoder can be reset to its initial password by pressing the [RESET] button.
Login Process:
- Enter "admin" in the
<User Name> input box.
- Enter the password in the
<Password> input field.
- Click
[Sign In].
Maintenance Features
Password Management:
The system emphasizes strong password policies for security. Users are prompted to set a new password upon initial access, ensuring that default passwords are not retained. The password reset function provides a recovery mechanism in case of forgotten credentials.
