Overview

This document outlines the instructions for the Witt ETNA Rotante and ETNA Fermo pizza ovens, providing comprehensive guidance on their safe operation, assembly, use, and maintenance. The manual emphasizes safety as a paramount concern, detailing crucial precautions to prevent fire, injury, or damage to the appliance.

Function Description

The Witt ETNA Rotante and ETNA Fermo are outdoor gas-fired pizza ovens designed for cooking pizzas. The ETNA Fermo is a single-burner model, while the ETNA Rotante features two burners and a rotating pizza stone. Both models are intended for outdoor use only, in well-ventilated areas, away from combustible materials. They are not suitable for indoor use, garages, porches, sheds, or any enclosed spaces, nor are they designed for use on boats, in motor homes, or caravans. The primary function is to cook pizzas efficiently and safely outdoors, with the Rotante model offering the added convenience of a rotating pizza stone for even cooking.

Usage Features

The operation of both pizza ovens involves connecting them to a gas cylinder and igniting the burners. Before any use, a thorough leak test of all gas connections is mandatory to ensure safety. The gas supply or hose must comply with applicable EN standards, and a non-adjustable pressure regulator is specified to prevent explosion or combustion risks. The nominal gas pressure should be 37 mbar. Users are instructed to ensure all valves/buttons are in the OFF position before opening the gas cylinder.

For the ETNA Fermo (single burner), ignition involves depressing and slowly turning the on/off button counter-clockwise until a click is heard and the burner ignites. This process takes approximately 8-10 seconds as gas travels to the oven. The button must be held for 10 seconds after ignition before being released. If the burner fails to ignite, users must return the button to the OFF position and wait five minutes before attempting ignition again.

The ETNA Rotante (two burners) follows a similar ignition procedure for its main burner. Additionally, it features a second burner and a rotating pizza stone. To activate the rotating stone, the middle button must be pressed. A critical warning for the Rotante model advises against leaving the rotation button activated for an extended period without the turntable running, as this could damage the pizza stone. Both models require AA batteries for their electronic ignition systems, with the Rotante model requiring additional batteries for the rotating stone mechanism. Correct battery insertion, observing polarity, is essential.

The manual highlights that the pizza oven parts, especially the cooking surfaces, become very hot during use. Users are advised to always wear barbecue gloves when handling hot components. The underside of the oven also reaches high temperatures, making it unsuitable for placement on plastic tables or other combustible surfaces. The appliance should not be moved during use, and the gas supply must be turned off at the cylinder after each use.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance and cleaning are crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the pizza ovens. It is explicitly stated that cleaning and maintenance must only be performed when the oven has completely cooled down and the gas cylinder is disconnected.

For the exterior, cleaning involves using mild soapy water and a clean cloth. Users are warned against using scouring or grease removal products, paint diluters, or similar solvents. Cold water should never be poured over warm surfaces. It is recommended to test any detergent on a smaller, inconspicuous area first.

The interior of the pizza oven can also be cleaned with mild soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge once it has cooled. For stubborn dirt or grease, a small amount of baking soda on a wet sponge can be used, but scouring agents should be avoided.

Special attention is given to the pizza stone. It is designed exclusively for use in the Witt pizza oven and should not be used over an open fire. The pizza stone should only be cleaned with water, as soap can leave residue in its joints. The stone is fragile and can break if knocked or dropped. Importantly, users must never cool the hot stone with water, as this can cause it to crack and break. After cleaning with water, the stone must be allowed to dry thoroughly before its next use.

The manual also covers troubleshooting common issues such as the burner failing to ignite, irregular flame, gas leaks, and the pizza stone not rotating. Solutions range from checking gas supply and battery levels to tightening connections, replacing damaged parts, or contacting the service center. Regular checks for worn or damaged hoses are recommended, and hoses should be replaced according to national guidelines.

For extended periods of non-use, the appliance should be stored indoors with the gas cylinder disconnected, preferably in its original packaging in a dry place. Gas cylinders, however, must always be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, inaccessible to children, and never in enclosed buildings or garages.
