Why does my Woodstock SHOP FOX W1704 Lathe keep stalling?
- FFranklin MorganAug 17, 2025
If your Woodstock Lathe stalls or seems underpowered, it might be due to a few things. First, the machine might be undersized for the task, so try using sharp chisels and reduce the feed rate or depth of cut. The material you're working with might not be suitable; only cut wood and make sure its moisture content is below 20%. Also, the feed rate or cutting speed could be too fast, so decrease them. The belt might be slipping, so tension or replace the belt, ensure the pulleys are aligned, and check that the belt is clean and undamaged. A pulley might be slipping on the shaft, so tighten or replace the loose pulley or shaft. Finally, the spindle speed dial, motor brushes, circuit board, or the motor itself could be faulty, so test, inspect, repair, or replace them as needed.
