Overview

This document describes the X-Sense Link+ Wireless Interlinked Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm, models SC06-W and SC07-W.

Function Description:

The X-Sense Link+ alarm is a wireless interlinked combination smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm designed for indoor use. It detects both smoke and CO, conforming to UL217 and UL2034 Standards. The smoke detection utilizes photoelectric technology, which is more sensitive to large particles typically produced by smoldering fires, such as those from cigarettes burning in couches or bedding. For CO detection, the unit employs electrochemical sensing technology to identify increased levels of carbon monoxide. A key feature is its wireless interlinking capability, allowing multiple units to connect and form an interconnected network. When one unit in the network is triggered, all interconnected alarms will sound, providing wide detection coverage. The alarm is 10-year sealed battery operated, ensuring a long operational life without battery replacement.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 10-year sealed lithium battery.
  • Sensor Type: Smoke: Photoelectric; CO: Electrochemical.
  • Product Lifespan: 10 years.
  • Safety Standard: UL217 and UL2034.
  • CO Sensitivity:
    • 70 ppm for 60–240 minutes
    • 150 ppm for 10–50 minutes
    • 400 ppm for 4–15 minutes
  • Operating Temperature: 40-100°F (4.4-37.8°C).
  • Operating Relative Humidity: 10%-85% RH (non-condensing).
  • Alarm Loudness: ≥ 85 dB at 10 ft (3 m) @ 3.2 ± 0.3 kHz pulsing alarm.
  • Silence Duration: ≤ 9 minutes.
  • Operating Frequency: 915 MHz.
  • Maximum Number of Interconnected Units: 24 wireless units (only compatible with X-Sense wireless alarms).
  • Transmission Range: Over 820 ft (250 m) in open air.
  • Battery Life Note: Battery life is calculated based on standby mode with weekly testing; alarming conditions will decrease battery life. Prolonged exposure to temperatures outside the operating range can reduce battery life and affect performance.

Usage Features:

  • Test/Silence Button: Used to test the unit's electronics and silence the alarm during an event. For weekly testing, press and hold the button until a short beep is heard (SC06-W). For SC07-W, first press to wake up the alarm and activate the LCD, then press and hold again to enter test mode.
  • Silence Mode:
    • Smoke Silence Mode: Pressing the test button during a smoke alarm silences it for 9 minutes. If smoke concentration remains high, the alarm will reactivate.
    • CO Silence Mode: Pressing the test button during a CO alarm silences it for 9 minutes. If CO density remains above the threshold, the alarm will reactivate.
    • Silence mode can be initiated from any interconnected unit, but to silence all interlinked units, the test/silence button on the initiating unit (the one that detected danger) must be pressed.
  • LED Indicator: Flashes in conjunction with the buzzer during various states including powering on, standby, alarm (smoke/CO), exiting alarm, test mode, low battery, silence mode, fault, and end-of-life.
    • SC06-W Smoke Alarm: LED flashes red 3 times every 4 seconds, with 3 long beeps every 4 seconds.
    • SC06-W CO Alarm: LED flashes red 4 times every 5.8 seconds, with 4 quick beeps repeating every 5.8 seconds.
    • SC07-W CO Alarm: Displays CO concentration on the LCD with a blue backlight, LED flashes red 4 times every 5.8 seconds, with 4 quick beeps repeating every 5.8 seconds.
  • Low Battery Indication: LED flashes yellow with one beep every 60 seconds. The unit must be deactivated and replaced promptly. Pressing the test button temporarily silences the low battery signal for 10 hours.
  • End-of-Life Indication: After 10 years, the alarm delivers 3 beeps and the LED flashes yellow 3 times every 60 seconds. This signal can be temporarily silenced for 22 hours by pressing the test button, for a total of 30 days. After 30 days, the signal cannot be silenced.
  • Interconnection: Units in a multi-pack are pre-interconnected. To connect additional units or multi-packs, one unit enters pairing mode (press test/silence 4 times, LED flashes red slowly), and the other enters searching mode (press test/silence twice, LED flashes red rapidly). Up to 24 units can be interconnected.
  • Disconnection: Press the test/silence button 4 times, then hold it down until it beeps once more to disconnect.
  • Alarm Priority: If both smoke and CO alarms are triggered simultaneously in an interconnected network, the smoke alarm signal takes priority.
  • Relay Function: The alarm has a relay function to extend the wireless interconnected network.

Maintenance Features:

  • Weekly Testing: Test the alarm weekly to ensure proper function of the alarm sound and indicators. It is also recommended to test after returning from a long trip or vacation, and after any changes to the group configuration.
  • Cleaning: Remove the unit from the ceiling/wall and clean the alarm cover and vents with a soft brush attachment once a month to remove dust and dirt.
  • Avoidance:
    • Never use detergents or other solvents to clean the unit.
    • Avoid spraying air fresheners, hair spray, or other aerosols near the alarm.
    • Do not paint the unit, as paint can seal vents and interfere with sensor ability.
    • Never attempt to disassemble the unit or clean inside, as this voids the warranty.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation when using household cleaning supplies or similar contaminants in the area of the alarm.
  • Replacement: The device has a replacement date (10 years from activation) beyond which it may no longer detect CO accurately and must be replaced immediately.
  • Deactivation: The alarm unit should only be deactivated when the end-of-life signal has been heard. This involves peeling back a shaded label, breaking a plastic guard, and twisting a dial to the "DIS" position. Once deactivated, the alarm will no longer function and cannot be reactivated; it must be replaced.
