The XS Power IntelliSUPPLY is a microprocessor-controlled, multi-stage power supply and battery charger designed for high-performance lead-acid batteries. It is available in three models: PSC15, PSC30, and PSC60, offering different amperage outputs. This device is suitable for charging 12V, 14V, and 16V flooded, maintenance-free, deep cycle, gel-cell, and AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries.
Function Description:
The IntelliSUPPLY operates as both an automatic power supply and a battery charger. Its core technology utilizes MOSFET rectifier technology with an advanced microprocessor control board to ensure rapid and safe recharging. It features a three-stage charging process: Bulk, Absorption, and Float, which is the fastest and safest technique for battery charging, as recommended by battery manufacturers.
In Bulk charging, the charger delivers its full-rated output current until the battery voltage approaches its absorption voltage (2.5V or 2.375V per cell, depending on battery type). This stage restores about 75% of the battery's capacity.
The Absorption charging stage fixes the voltage according to the battery type, allowing the current to float. During this stage, the battery reaches 100% charge, and cells are equalized.
Float charging is a maintenance mode where voltage and current are reduced to a level that sustains the battery indefinitely, typically around 2.26V per cell, without gassing. The charger will automatically restart a new charge cycle if AC power is disconnected/reconnected or if current demand exceeds the battery recharge current setting.
Beyond charging, the IntelliSUPPLY can operate in Power Supply Mode, maintaining a constant output voltage and current. This mode is ideal for audio display boards and test bench power supplies, but it should not be used to charge AGM batteries.
A unique Desulfation Mode is integrated to recondition sulfated batteries, which often occur at the end of a battery's life or after prolonged disuse. Through a complex charging cycle and microprocessor-controlled pulsed output, the charger breaks down sulfated crystals, restoring battery capacity and performance. Regular use of this mode on older batteries is advised to prolong their life.
The PSC60 model offers a dual bank charger feature, allowing independent charging of two isolated batteries or battery banks. It automatically senses and delivers appropriate current levels to each bank until both are fully charged. This feature is designed for common voltage batteries only; connecting batteries of different voltages (e.g., 12V and 16V) will result in improper charging and potential irreversible damage.
