Every surface above 0 Kelvin (absolute zero) emits infra-red energy
Invisible to the naked eye, the wavelengths fall within the electromagnetic
wavelength range of 0.7 to 1000 microns.
Because infrared rays have such wide wavelength spectral bands, they are
classified into near, medium and far infrared. All types are used in a variety of
applications.
Far infrared is used by passive infrared (PIR) detectors.
