The Xtrfy K5 Compact is a plug-and-play mechanical keyboard designed for ease of use and extensive customization without the need for software. Its compact form factor makes it suitable for various setups, while its robust feature set caters to both casual users and gamers.

Function Description

The K5 Compact serves as a high-performance input device for computers, offering a full range of keyboard functionalities, including standard typing, media controls, and advanced customization options for its RGB LED illumination and macro capabilities. It operates as a plug-and-play device, meaning it requires no additional driver installation; simply connect it to a USB-A port on your computer, and it will be ready for use. The keyboard supports both USB 2 and USB 3 modes, with USB 3 mode recommended for maximizing RGB illumination brightness.

Usage Features

The K5 Compact is designed for intuitive, on-the-keyboard control, eliminating the need for external software. All settings are accessed by pressing the FN key in combination with other keys.

RGB LED Settings:

  • Switch to USB 3 Mode to Boost RGB: To maximize the brightness of the RGB illumination, press and hold FN + USB 2/3 key for 2 seconds when connected to a USB 3 port.
  • Show Current LED Mode: Hold the FN key to see which LED mode is currently active. Custom color settings are found in K-LED mode.
  • LED On/Off: Press FN + LED ON/OFF (Caps Lock) to toggle the illumination on or off.
  • LED Brightness Up/Down: Press FN + one of the brightness keys repeatedly to adjust the LED illumination intensity.
  • LED Typing Effects: Press FN + the typing effects key repeatedly to cycle through 6 different typing effects. The 7th mode turns typing effects off. Decreasing regular LED illumination brightness can make typing effects more visible.
  • LED Wave Effects: Press FN + the wave effects key repeatedly to switch between 7 different wave effects.
  • Your LED Settings (K-LED): Press FN + K-LED to display your personalized LED settings, which are configured using the K-COLOR and BG COLOR keys.
  • Key Mask (K-MASK): When FN + K-MASK is pressed, only the keys previously colored using the K-COLOR key will function, disabling all other keys.
  • Change Individual Key Colors (K-COLOR):
    1. Press FN + K-COLOR.
    2. While the FN key blinks, press the keys whose colors you wish to change.
    3. Press the FN key again.
    4. A color palette will appear on the keys. Select your desired color for the chosen keys. Press the spacebar repeatedly for more color options.
    5. The selected keys will now display your chosen color. To use these colors, press FN + K-LED.
  • Change Background Color (All Keys) (BG COLOR): To change the color of all keys, press FN + BG COLOR and select a color from the palette that appears. Press the spacebar for more color options. To apply this setting, press FN + K-LED.
  • LED Effect Speed Up/Down: Press FN + one of the speed keys repeatedly to increase or decrease the speed of the LED effects.
  • Clear Your LED Settings (CLEAR ALL): Press FN + CLEAR ALL to reset your LED settings, returning to K-LED mode with cleared settings and an active typing effect.

Macros:

  • Record and Play Macros: To record a macro, press and hold FN + one of the M1-M5 keys for 2 seconds. A light in the right corner will blink, indicating recording is active. Enter your key sequence, then press FN again to save it to the selected macro button. To play a macro, press FN + the corresponding M1-M5 key.
  • Macro Speed Up/Down: Press FN + one of the macro speed keys repeatedly to adjust the speed of the last played macro.

Media Controls: Press FN in combination with specific keys to control media functions such as stop, play, mute, and volume.

F1-F12: Access F1-F12 functions by pressing FN in combination with the respective keys.

Control the Mouse Cursor: Press FN in combination with designated keys to control the mouse cursor, scroll wheel, and left/right clicks.

Other Settings:

  • Switch Between 6-Key and N-Key Rollover (6/NKEY): Press FN + 6/NKEY to toggle between N-Key Rollover (all keys can be pressed simultaneously without loss) and 6-Key Rollover (limits to 6 simultaneous keypresses, useful for BIOS or certain bank logins). N-Key mode is the standard and recommended setting.
  • Open Calculator: Press FN + the calculator key to open the calculator on your computer.
  • Key Release Response Speed Up/Down (K-FAST/K-SLOW): Press FN + one of these keys to adjust the key release response speed. FAST is recommended for maximum typing speed, while SLOW can help prevent double typing or chattering.
  • Navigation Keys (PAUSE, INS, PRTSC, HOME, END): Access traditional navigation keys by pressing FN in combination with these keys.
  • Check Firmware Version (VERSION): Open a text document and press FN + VERSION; the keyboard will type its current firmware version into the document.
  • Open Menu: Depending on compatibility, press FN + the menu key to open the menu of the current application.
  • Lock Windows Key (WIN LOCK): Press FN + WIN LOCK to disable the Windows key, preventing accidental interruptions during gaming.
  • Move FN Key Function to Left ALT: If you prefer using the left ALT key as FN, press and hold FN + the FN key (original position) for 5 seconds. The original FN key will then function as ALT.
  • Move FN Key Function Back to FN Key: If the FN key function was moved to the left ALT key, press and hold FN (current position, i.e., left ALT) + ALT (original ALT key) for 5 seconds to revert to the original FN key assignment.

Maintenance Features

Assemble and Disassemble the Keyboard: The manual provides visual instructions for assembling and disassembling the keyboard, likely for cleaning, switch replacement, or customization purposes. This modular design allows users to maintain and modify their keyboard components.
