DESCRIPTION BEHAVIOR
Traction detects short in power MOSFETs before
contactor closes. - (RH Node 3, LH Node 4)
Truck Disabled, contactor does not close.
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
1. Check motor phase voltage:
a. Ensure truck is powered up, but contactor open.
b. Measure each motor phase terminal (U, V, & W) with reference to B−, is the output ~ 1/2 of B+
(~15V)?
YES- Proceed to Step 2.
NO- Proceed to Step 3.
2. Check for secure phase connections:
a. Is each motor phase wire connected to the controller posts securely?
YES- Proceed to Step 2b.
NO- Correctly torque phase connections to phase posts.
b. Are the terminal crimps on the each phase wire solid and secure?
YES- Proceed to Step 3.
NO- Repair the wiring.
3. Check for wiring shorts to frame:
a. Disconnect Battery from truck.
b. Measure between each phase (U,V,W) to frame with Ohm meter. Is value > 470k?
c. Measure between B− and frame, is value > 10k?
d. Measure between B+ and frame, is value > 10k?
YES- Proceed to step 4.
NO- Determine location of short and resolve.
