DESCRIPTION BEHAVIOR
Contactor driver coil short to Battery
Negative (B−) or open circuit
detected - (RH Node 3)
All functions stopped & brake drops. Truck disabled.
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
1. Determine if Line Contactor coil at fault:
a. Disconnect the Line Contactor coil (wire 075), does the fault go away? (NOTE: A coil open coil may
fault then occur.)
YES- Problem is with LC coil assembly Proceed to Step 2.
NO- Proceed to Step 5.
2. Check the line contactor coil to be between 65 to 85 Ohms?
YES- Coil not at fault, proceed to step 5.
NO- Proceed to step 3.
3. Check Line contactor coil diode:
a. Disconnect diode from one side of coil, should read open in one direction, conducting in the other.
b. The cathode (drawn line) should be on wire 10 side.
YES- Diode OK, coil must be at fault, replace contactor.
NO- Diode damaged, replace diode.
4. Check LC Coil connections for Short:
a. With coil connections disconnected, measure between coil connections on harness side, is
resistance > 47 kOhms?
YES- No harness fault found, controller driver may be at fault, Proceed to step 5.
NO- Locate shorted wires in harness, separate, and repair wires / pin / crimps.
5. Check controller LC coil driver for short:
a. Disconnect CPS41 and measure between Pin 4 of traction controller and B− stud, is there
continuity?
YES- Controller at fault, contact Service Engineering.
NO- Repeat step 4 with CPS 41 disconnected.
