8961 Automatic LH Traction
Node 4
DESCRIPTION BEHAVIOR
One of the on/off valve coil is detected as
shorted or open circuit - (LH Node 4)
Specific coil function disabled, determined by
operational test.
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
5. Check coil wiring to CPS 42 connector of LH traction controller:
• Pin 11 (SV2 B) – Tilt Back
• Pin 23 (SV2 A) – Tilt Forward
• Pin 24 (PV3) – Aux Proportional Valve
• Pin 33 (SV6 A) – 4th Function A
• Pin 34 (SV6 B) – 4th Function B
a. Measure from Pin __ (above) to corresponding coil connector for continuity.
YES- Proceed to step 5b.
NO- Repair wire, pin, or crimp (replace harness only if not repairable).
b. Check for shorted wiring, by measuring across coil connector and verifying resistance < 1k Ohms.
YES- Determine location of short in wiring, separate and repair.
NO- Proceed to step 6.
6. Check internal flyback diode of controller:
a. Disconnect CPS41 connector.
b. Measure from Pin 3 to Pin ___ (above) with the Pos lead on coil pin and neg on Pin 3, does it show
> 1k Ohms?
YES- Proceed to step 6c.
NO- Internal flyback diode is shorted, replace controller.
c. Measure from Pin 3 to Pin ____ (above) with the pos lead on Pin 3, and the neg lead on coil pin,
does it show < 100 Ohms?
YES- Diode is fine, no cause found, contact Service Engineering.
NO- Diode is open, drive may be damaged, contact Service Engineering.
