Overview

The LYG-W700A Series Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet is designed to protect the user's eyes and face during welding, cutting, and grinding operations. This helmet features an auto-darkening lens that automatically adjusts its shade level in response to the intensity of the welding arc, providing continuous protection against intense visible light, ultraviolet (UV), and infrared (IR) rays. The helmet is equipped with various controls to customize its operation according to the specific application and user preferences, ensuring both safety and comfort.

Function Description

The primary function of the LYG-W700A welding helmet is to provide comprehensive eye and face protection during arc welding, cutting, and grinding. The auto-darkening lens is the core component, which transitions from a light state to a darkened state almost instantaneously when an arc is struck, and then returns to the clear state after welding stops. This automatic adjustment eliminates the need for the user to manually flip the helmet up and down, improving efficiency and reducing eye strain.

The helmet operates in three main modes: Weld Mode, Cut Mode, and Grind Mode. In Weld Mode, the lens darkens to a shade range of No. 9-No. 13, suitable for most welding applications. In Cut Mode, the lens darkens to a shade range of No. 5-No. 9, specifically designed for cutting operations. In Grind Mode, the lens remains in a light state of No. 4, providing clear vision for grinding tasks without darkening. Continuous UV and IR protection is maintained in all modes, regardless of the shade level.

The helmet is powered by a combination of a lithium battery and solar supply, ensuring reliable operation and extended battery life. A low battery indicator alerts the user when the battery life is running low, allowing for timely replacement. The helmet also features an automatic power-off function that shuts off the lens 15-20 minutes after the last arc is struck, conserving battery power.

Usage Features

The LYG-W700A helmet offers several adjustable features to enhance user experience and adaptability to different working conditions:

  • Variable Shade Control (No. 5-9/9-13): This control allows the user to select the appropriate shade level based on the welding process and amperage. The dual-scale dial enables precise adjustment within the specified shade ranges for Weld and Cut modes. For grinding, the shade is fixed at No. 4.
  • Sensitivity Control: This feature adjusts the lens's responsiveness to ambient light and the welding arc. Users can fine-tune the sensitivity to prevent the lens from flickering or failing to darken in various lighting conditions. A mid-range or 30-50% sensitivity setting is recommended for most applications.
  • Lens Delay Control: This control allows the user to set the time it takes for the lens to switch from the darkened state back to the clear state after welding stops. This is particularly useful in high-amperage applications where the molten puddle remains bright momentarily, preventing "after-flash" and reducing eye fatigue. The delay can be adjusted from 0.1 seconds (SLOW) to 0.8 seconds (FAST).
  • Reset Button: A dedicated reset button is provided to check if the lens is functioning correctly. Pressing this button should cause the lens to darken and then return to the clear state. If it does not, troubleshooting is recommended.
  • Headgear Adjustments: The headgear is designed for comfort and stability, offering four points of adjustment:
    • Headgear Top: Adjusts the depth of the headgear on the head for proper balance.
    • Headgear Tightness: An adjusting knob at the back allows for tightening or loosening the fit.
    • Distance Adjustment: Loosening tension knobs allows the user to adjust the distance between the face and the lens for optimal vision.
    • Angle Adjustment: Four pins on the right side of the headband provide adjustment for the forward tilt of the helmet.
  • Integrated Light: The helmet includes a built-in light with a dedicated switch, useful for working in low-light environments.
  • Integrated Fan: A detachable fan cover and switch allow for activation of a fan to improve airflow, reduce harmful gases, and decrease the temperature inside the helmet, enhancing comfort during prolonged use.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the LYG-W700A welding helmet:

  • Lens Cover Replacement: The helmet features easily replaceable inside and outside lens covers. The outside lens cover can be removed by pushing down a snap on the bottom of the lens frame and rotating the frame clockwise. The inside lens cover can be pried from its groove in the gasket. It is critical to always use the helmet with both lens covers properly installed to protect the auto-darkening lens from welding spatter, which can damage the lens and void the warranty.
  • Cleaning: The helmet requires minimal maintenance. After each use, the cover lenses should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution, then allowed to air dry. The filter lens and sensors should be gently wiped with a soft, dry cloth. It is important to avoid using solvents or abrasive cleaning detergents and never immerse the lens assembly in water.
  • Battery Replacement: The low battery indicator signals when the CR2450 lithium battery needs replacement.
  • Inspection: The auto-lens should be inspected frequently for any scratches, cracks, or pits on the cover lenses or the auto-lens itself. Any damaged components should be replaced immediately to ensure continuous protection.

The LYG-W700A Series Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet is designed with user safety, comfort, and operational flexibility in mind, making it a reliable tool for various welding, cutting, and grinding tasks.
