Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Zanussi ZDI 6052 dishwasher. It provides comprehensive information on the appliance's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Zanussi ZDI 6052 is a dishwasher designed to efficiently clean dishes, cutlery, and other kitchenware. It features a water softener system to remove minerals and salts from the water supply, which can negatively impact washing performance. The appliance offers various washing programmes tailored to different levels of soil and types of load, including options for normal soil, light soil, and quick washes. It also incorporates a rinse aid dispenser for thorough rinsing and spot-free drying, and a detergent dispenser for optimal cleaning. Safety features include a device to prevent water floods, a mechanism to stop the machine if the door is opened during operation, and a design that requires proper earthing for electrical safety.

Important Technical Specifications

    • Maximum: 800 kPa (8 bar)
  • Capacity: 12 place settings
  • Water Hardness Adjustment: The water softener can be adjusted to 6 levels (0-5) based on German degrees (dH°), French degrees (°TH), or PPM (Parts per Million).
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser Capacity: Approximately 110 ml, sufficient for 16-40 dishwashing programmes.
  • Detergent Dosage: Varies by programme, typically 25-30g for wash and 5g for prewash.

Usage Features

The dishwasher is operated via a control panel with an On/Off indicator light, On/Off push button, programme guide, door handle, programme marker, and programme selector dial.

  • Before First Use: Users must ensure electrical and water connections are correct, remove packaging, set the water softener, fill the salt container (with 1 litre of water first, then salt), fill the rinse aid dispenser, and run a Rinse and Hold programme.
  • Loading: Food scraps should be removed before loading. Very small items that could fall through baskets should not be loaded.
    • Lower Basket: Designed for saucepans, lids, plates, salad bowls, and cutlery. Large dishes and lids should be arranged around the edge to ensure free rotation of the upper spray arm.
    • Upper Basket: Designed for dessert plates, saucers, dinner plates (up to 25 cm), salad bowls, cups, and glasses. Items should be arranged to allow water to reach all surfaces. Light items should be secured to prevent movement. Plates can be loaded in the upper basket, tilted slightly forwards.
    • Cutlery Basket: Cutlery should generally be placed with handles facing downwards. Long bladed knives and sharp items should be positioned horizontally in the upper basket for safety. Silver cutlery should be separated from steel cutlery to prevent discolouration.
  • Adjusting Upper Basket Height: The upper basket can be moved to a higher position to accommodate very large plates (27-32 cm) in the lower basket. In the higher position, the top basket accommodates plates up to 20 cm, and raised cup racks cannot be used.
  • Operating Sequence:
    1. Check filters for cleanliness and correct positioning.
    2. Check rinse aid and salt levels.
    3. Load dishes, removing food scraps.
    4. Ensure spray arms can rotate freely.
    5. Measure and add detergent according to the programme chart.
    6. Close the dishwasher door.
    7. Set the programme using the selector dial and push buttons.
    8. Start the programme by pressing the On/Off button.
    9. The dishwasher automatically stops at the end of the programme.
  • Energy Saving Tips: Place dishes immediately after meals, wait until the dishwasher is full, do not prewash under running water, and use the Quick 50°C programme for lightly soiled dishes.
  • Items Not Suitable for Dishwashers: Includes cutlery with wooden/horn handles, bronze cutlery, wooden-handled saucepans, aluminium ware, crystal ware, leaded glass, plastic items (unless dishwasher-proof), antique/fine decorated china, iron/cast iron objects, and certain types of glass or decorations that may discolour or become opaque. Silver and steel cutlery should not be washed together.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the dishwasher's performance and longevity.

  • Internal Cleaning:
    • Clean door seals, detergent, and rinse aid dispensers regularly with a damp cloth.
    • Run a 65°C wash without dishes using detergent every 3 months.
  • Cleaning the Central Filter (After Each Wash): Remove food scraps from the drain filter (A) and rinse under running water. Refit by pushing it back into its original position.
  • Cleaning the Large Filter (Every Week):
    1. Remove the spray arm by pulling it upwards.
    2. Turn the column (C) anticlockwise by 90° and slide out the filter.
    3. Clean the large filter (B) on both sides under running water using a brush.
    4. Refit in reverse order, ensuring the drain filter handle points towards the front.
    • Important: The dishwasher must not be used without filters. Incorrect filter positioning will lead to poor washing results.
  • External Cleaning: Clean external surfaces and the control panel with a damp soft cloth and neutral detergents. Avoid abrasive products, scouring pads, or solvents.
  • Prolonged Periods of Non-Operation:
    1. Unplug the appliance and turn off the water.
    2. Fill the rinse aid dispenser.
    3. Leave the door ajar to prevent unpleasant smells.
    4. Ensure the inside of the machine is clean.
  • Frost Precautions: Avoid placing the machine below 0°C. If unavoidable, empty the machine, close the door, disconnect the water inlet pipe, and empty it.
  • Moving the Machine: Unplug, turn off the water tap, remove inlet and discharge hoses, and pull the machine out carefully, avoiding over-tilting.
  • Protection Against Flooding:
    • Water Inlet Hose: Equipped with a safety device that prevents water entry if the inner hose splits. A red indicator (B-12) signals a problem. If this occurs, close the water tap and replace the hose. The retaining ring (A-12) must be properly fitted.
    • Bottom of the Machine: A device operates if there are any water leaks, but only when the machine is on. If activated, turn off the water tap and contact service.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues and advises contacting an authorised Service Force Centre for repairs, insisting on genuine spare parts.
