Overview

This document is a user manual for the Zanussi ZDT40 dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Zanussi ZDT40 is a household dishwasher designed for washing utensils suitable for machine washing. It features a water softener system to manage water hardness, a rinse aid dispenser for improved drying, and multiple washing programs tailored to different soil levels and load types. The appliance incorporates audible signals to indicate operational status and potential malfunctions.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 12 place settings
  • Max. weight: 37 kg
  • Noise level: 51 dB(A)
  • Dimensions (Width x Height x Depth): 59.6 x 81.8-87.8 x 55.5 cm
  • Water Supply Pressure (Minimum - Maximum): 0.05 - 0.8 MPa
  • Electrical Connection: Voltage, overall power, and fuse information are located on the rating plate on the inner edge of the dishwasher's door.
  • Water Hardness Settings: The water softener can be adjusted manually (positions 1 or 2) and electronically (levels 1-10) to accommodate water hardness ranging from <5 Clarke (<7 °TH, <0.7 mmol/l) to 64-88 Clarke (91-125 °TH, 9.0-12.5 mmol/l).
  • Detergent Requirement (Full load, 12 standard place settings): 5g + 25g (Type B)
  • Rinse Aid Setting (Full load, 12 standard place settings): Position 4 (Type III)

Consumption Values (approximate, subject to variations in pressure, temperature, power supply, and load):

  • 65°C Program (Normal soil, Crockery, cutlery, pots and pans):
    • Duration: 105-115 minutes
    • Energy Consumption: 1.5-1.7 kWh
    • Water: 23-25 litres
  • 30' Program (Light soil, Crockery and cutlery):
    • Duration: 30 minutes
    • Energy Consumption: 0.9 kWh
    • Water: 9 litres
  • 50° Program (Normal soil, Crockery and cutlery):
    • Duration: 140 minutes
    • Energy Consumption: 1.05 kWh
    • Water: 16 litres
  • Cold Rinse Program (Any soil, Partial load):
    • Duration: 12 minutes
    • Energy Consumption: 0.1 kWh
    • Water: 5 litres (does not require detergent)

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: Features an On-Off button, a Programme selection/cancel button, programme lights, and an indicator light.
  • Setting Mode: The appliance enters setting mode when all programme lights are off and the "End of programme" light flashes. This mode is used for selecting programs, setting water softener, and deactivating/activating audible signals.
  • Programme Selection: Programs are selected by pressing the Programme selection/cancel button until the desired program light illuminates. The program starts automatically upon closing the door.
  • Cancelling a Programme: To cancel a running program, open the door, press and hold the Programme selection/cancel button until the running program light turns off and the "End of programme" light flashes, then release the button.
  • Audible Signals: The dishwasher provides audible signals for the end of a washing program and appliance malfunctions. These signals can be activated or deactivated through a specific sequence using the Programme selection/cancel button.
  • Water Softener: The water softener must be set both manually (using a dial) and electronically according to the local water hardness.
  • Dishwasher Salt: Special dishwasher salt must be used. Before first use, 1 litre of water should be poured into the salt container, followed by filling with salt. The salt cap has a refill indicator window.
  • Rinse Aid: The rinse aid dispenser should be filled with rinse aid. The dosage level is factory set at position 4 but can be adjusted to prevent water drops or streaks on dishes. The rinse aid indicator (B) becomes clear when topped up.
  • Loading Dishes: Dishes and cutlery should be loaded to allow free rotation of spray arms and prevent items from covering each other. Hollow items should be placed opening downwards. Knives and sharp items should be loaded points down in the cutlery basket or horizontally in the upper basket. Light items should be in the upper basket and secured.
  • Adjusting Upper Basket Height: The upper basket height can be adjusted to accommodate larger items in the lower basket. This involves moving front runner stops, sliding the basket out, refitting it at the higher position, and replacing the stops. Note that cup racks cannot be used when the basket is in the higher position.
  • Detergent Use: Only detergents suitable for dishwashers should be used, following manufacturer's dosing and storage recommendations. For programs with pre-wash, an additional detergent dose is added to compartment B. Detergent tablets should be placed in compartment A, and long washing programs are recommended for tablets to ensure complete dissolution.
  • Unloading: Hot dishes are sensitive to knocks; allow them to cool before unloading. Empty the lower basket first, then the upper to prevent water dripping.
  • Tablets with Integrated Functions: When using tablets that combine rinse aid, detergent, and salt functions, there is no need to fill the rinse aid or special salt containers. The water hardness should be set to level 1. If unsatisfactory drying occurs, fill the rinse aid dispenser, set dosage to position 2, and if switching back to separate detergents, fill salt and rinse aid containers, set water hardness to the highest level, run a normal program without dishes, then adjust water hardness and rinse aid dosage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Filters: The dishwasher must not be used without filters. Filters A, B, and C should be thoroughly cleaned under running water. Filter A fits into the base of the washing compartment, and filters B and C are removed by turning a handle anticlockwise.
  • Cleaning Spray Arms: If spray arm holes are clogged, clear them with a cocktail stick. Do not attempt to remove the spray arms.
  • External Cleaning: Clean external surfaces and the control panel with a damp soft cloth and neutral detergents. Avoid abrasive products, scouring pads, or solvents.
  • Internal Cleaning: Regularly clean door seals, detergent, and rinse aid dispensers with a damp cloth. Every 3 months, run a wash program for heavy soiled dishes with detergent but without dishes.
  • Prolonged Periods of Non-Operation: If the machine will not be used for a long time, unplug it, turn off the water, leave the door ajar to prevent smells, and ensure the inside is clean.
  • Frost Precautions: Avoid placing the machine where temperatures drop below 0°C. If unavoidable, empty the machine, close the door, disconnect, and empty the water inlet pipe.
  • Moving the Machine: Unplug, turn off water, remove water inlet and discharge hoses, and pull the machine out with the hoses. Avoid over-tilting during transport.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a "What to do if..." section with fault codes, malfunctions, possible causes, and solutions for common issues like the dishwasher not starting, not filling with water, not draining, or poor wash results. For other issues or persistent problems, contact the local Service Force Centre.
  • Disposal: The product and its packaging materials are recyclable. Dispose of packaging at community waste disposal facilities. When the unit is no longer in use, unplug it, cut off the cable and plug, and dispose of them. Dispose of the door catch to prevent children from trapping themselves.
