The core function of the Zircon WL 25 Pro is to provide accurate level reference points using the principle of a water level, enhanced with electronic sensing for precision and ease of use. The device operates by detecting the water level within its sensing tube and indicating when a desired level is reached through audible tones and a visual LED.
To begin using the WL 25 Pro, a 9V battery must first be installed. This involves pressing the battery door release, removing the door, snapping the 9V battery onto its connector, placing it inside the battery compartment, and then replacing and snapping the door shut.
Assembly of the unit involves connecting the long hose to the lower end of the short hose that passes through the body of the unit, using the provided hose connector. There will also be a short length of hose extending from the top of the unit. Hose clamps should be positioned, if necessary, so that one is on the short hose extending from the top and the other is at the free end of the long hose.
Filling the unit with water is a crucial step for its operation. The top hose clamp should be opened, and the WL 25 Pro positioned to allow water to exit the top hose. The filler nozzle is then attached to an outdoor faucet, and the water supply is turned on. Water will not flow until the filler nozzle switch is turned to the open position. The working end hose clamp is opened, and the 25-foot (7.5-meter) long hose is pressed to the filler nozzle exit. The filler nozzle switch is turned to allow water to fill the long hose until water flows out of the top hose. It is important to allow water to flow for at least 10 seconds to ensure no air exits the top hose. After filling, the filler nozzle switch is closed, and the working end hose clamp is closed. Alternatively, water can be siphoned from a bucket to fill the hose. It is essential to ensure the hose clamps are locked at each end to prevent water from running out while setting up the working area. A critical note for accurate readings is to always remove large air bubbles from the water-filled hose before use. This can be achieved by unlocking both clamps and gently shaking the hose to force air bubbles to the top.
Once filled and assembled, the WL 25 Pro is ready for use. It should be mounted to the work area, with the level reference points on its sides aligned with the desired finished level point. The included mounting bracket and screw facilitate attaching the unit to a form, and the unit fits onto the bracket, making height adjustments easier. The unit can be mounted either above or below the reference point, with measurements taken up or down from the marks to the desired position. For stability and accurate readings, the unit must be securely fastened at both the top and bottom to prevent it from swinging side to side.
To operate, the ON/OFF button is slid to the "ON" position. The working end of the hose is lowered to keep water below the level line indicator. The clamp on the short top hose is opened. The long length of the hose is then moved to the desired level position, ensuring the hose is not knotted or kinked and will not be undisturbed. The long end of the hose should be kept lower than the electronic unit until ready to take a reading. The end of the hose is then elevated just enough to prevent water from running out. The clamp on the working end of the unit is opened. The long hose is SLOWLY raised until a continuous tone just starts, indicating that the level point has been reached. A line can then be marked on the work surface matching the water level. If the tube is raised too fast and the level point is passed, an intermittent tone will sound. In this case, the working tube should be lowered until the tone stops, and then SLOWLY raised again. It is noted that the longer the working tube, the more time it takes for water levels to stabilize.
