for determining level reference points up to 25 ft. (7.5 m) away.
The WL 25 Pro simplifies working alone or around corners with
accurate and reliable measurements and is ideal for a number
of applications, including erecting fences, building decks,
positioning drainage, plumbing, setting forms, completing masonry
work, or remodeling interiors. The WL 25 Pro features a 25 ft.
(7.5 m) hose, mounting bracket and screw, hose connector,
and filler nozzle.
INSTALLING BATTERY
Press battery door release and
remove door. Snap 9V battery onto
connector and place inside battery
compartment. Replace door and
snap shut.
ASSEMBLING THE WL 25 PRO
Using the hose connector provided, attach one end of
the long hose to the lower end of the short hose that
passes through the body of the unit. There will also
be a short length extending from the top. Move the
hose clamps, if necessary, so that one is on the short
hose extending from the top and the other clamp is at
the free end of the long hose.
FILLING WITH WATER
Open the top hose clamp and position the WL 25 Pro
to allow water to exit the top hose. Attach the
filler nozzle to an outdoor faucet and turn
on the water supply. Water will not flow
until the filler nozzle switch is turned to the
open position. Open the working end hose
clamp and press the 25 ft. (7.5 m) long hose to the filler nozzle exit.
Turn the filler nozzle switch to allow water to fill the long hose
until water is flowing out of the top hose. Allow the water to flow
until there is no air exiting the top hose for at least 10 seconds.
Close the filler nozzle switch and close the working end hose clamp.
You can also siphon water from a bucket to fill the hose. Ensure the
hose clamps are locked at each end to keep the water from running
out as you set up your working area.
NOTE: To avoid inaccurate readings, always remove large
air bubbles in the water filled hose before using. To help
remove air bubbles, unlock both clamps and gently shake
the hose to force air bubbles to the top
MOUNTING THE WL 25 PRO
Mount the WL 25 Pro so
that the level reference
points on the sides are at
the desired finished level point.
A mounting bracket and screw
are included for attaching
unit to a form. The unit fits
on the bracket, making height
adjustments easier.
WL 25 PRO KIT ATTACHMENTS
You can also mount the WL 25 Pro above or below that
reference point, measuring up or down from your marks to
the desired position. Fasten the unit at both top and bottom to
ensure stability. If the unit swings from side to side, your level
points will change and give you inaccurate readings.
USING THE WL 25 PRO
Attach the electronic unit to the work area, then slide the ON/OFF
button to ON. Lower the working end of the hose to keep water
below the level line indicator. Open the clamp on the short top
hose. Move the long length of the hose to the desired level position,
making sure that the hose is not knotted or kinked and will not
be kicked, stepped on, or disturbed. Keep the long end of the hose
lower than the electronic unit until you are ready.
Elevate the end just enough that the water doesn’t run out.
Open the clamp on the working end of the unit. SLOWLY raise the
end of the long hose until the continuous tone just starts. Mark a
line on the work surface matching the level of the water.
Note: If you raise the tube too fast
and the level point is passed and the
intermittent tone sounds, lower the
working tube until the tone stops
and then SLOWLY raise it again.
The longer the working tube,
the more time it takes for the
water levels to stabilize.

Overview

The Zircon WL 25 Pro Electronic Water Level is an indispensable tool designed for accurately determining level reference points across distances up to 25 feet (7.5 meters). This device significantly simplifies tasks that require precise leveling, especially when working alone or navigating around corners, making it highly versatile for a wide range of applications. Its utility extends to various construction and remodeling projects, including the erection of fences, the construction of decks, establishing proper drainage, plumbing installations, setting forms for concrete, completing masonry work, and interior remodeling projects. The WL 25 Pro kit comes equipped with a 25-foot (7.5-meter) hose, a mounting bracket and screw for secure placement, a hose connector to facilitate assembly, and a filler nozzle for easy water filling.

Function Description

The core function of the Zircon WL 25 Pro is to provide accurate level reference points using the principle of a water level, enhanced with electronic sensing for precision and ease of use. The device operates by detecting the water level within its sensing tube and indicating when a desired level is reached through audible tones and a visual LED.

To begin using the WL 25 Pro, a 9V battery must first be installed. This involves pressing the battery door release, removing the door, snapping the 9V battery onto its connector, placing it inside the battery compartment, and then replacing and snapping the door shut.

Assembly of the unit involves connecting the long hose to the lower end of the short hose that passes through the body of the unit, using the provided hose connector. There will also be a short length of hose extending from the top of the unit. Hose clamps should be positioned, if necessary, so that one is on the short hose extending from the top and the other is at the free end of the long hose.

Filling the unit with water is a crucial step for its operation. The top hose clamp should be opened, and the WL 25 Pro positioned to allow water to exit the top hose. The filler nozzle is then attached to an outdoor faucet, and the water supply is turned on. Water will not flow until the filler nozzle switch is turned to the open position. The working end hose clamp is opened, and the 25-foot (7.5-meter) long hose is pressed to the filler nozzle exit. The filler nozzle switch is turned to allow water to fill the long hose until water flows out of the top hose. It is important to allow water to flow for at least 10 seconds to ensure no air exits the top hose. After filling, the filler nozzle switch is closed, and the working end hose clamp is closed. Alternatively, water can be siphoned from a bucket to fill the hose. It is essential to ensure the hose clamps are locked at each end to prevent water from running out while setting up the working area. A critical note for accurate readings is to always remove large air bubbles from the water-filled hose before use. This can be achieved by unlocking both clamps and gently shaking the hose to force air bubbles to the top.

Once filled and assembled, the WL 25 Pro is ready for use. It should be mounted to the work area, with the level reference points on its sides aligned with the desired finished level point. The included mounting bracket and screw facilitate attaching the unit to a form, and the unit fits onto the bracket, making height adjustments easier. The unit can be mounted either above or below the reference point, with measurements taken up or down from the marks to the desired position. For stability and accurate readings, the unit must be securely fastened at both the top and bottom to prevent it from swinging side to side.

To operate, the ON/OFF button is slid to the "ON" position. The working end of the hose is lowered to keep water below the level line indicator. The clamp on the short top hose is opened. The long length of the hose is then moved to the desired level position, ensuring the hose is not knotted or kinked and will not be undisturbed. The long end of the hose should be kept lower than the electronic unit until ready to take a reading. The end of the hose is then elevated just enough to prevent water from running out. The clamp on the working end of the unit is opened. The long hose is SLOWLY raised until a continuous tone just starts, indicating that the level point has been reached. A line can then be marked on the work surface matching the water level. If the tube is raised too fast and the level point is passed, an intermittent tone will sound. In this case, the working tube should be lowered until the tone stops, and then SLOWLY raised again. It is noted that the longer the working tube, the more time it takes for water levels to stabilize.

Usage Features

The WL 25 Pro offers several features designed to enhance its usability and accuracy:

  • Electronic Sensing with Audible Tones: The device provides clear audible feedback. An intermittent tone indicates that the level point is too high, while a continuous tone signifies that the desired level point has been reached. This allows users to work efficiently without constantly needing to visually check the water level.
  • Visual Level Line Indicator and Power LED: A dedicated level line indicator on the unit provides a visual reference for the water level. Additionally, a Power LED confirms that the unit is active.
  • Audio Output: The audio output feature ensures that the user receives immediate feedback on the level status, which is particularly useful when working in noisy environments or when the unit is out of direct sight.
  • Tube-Cleaning Brush: Included with the kit, this brush is essential for maintaining the accuracy of the sensing tube by cleaning any mineral buildup.
  • Mounting Bracket and Screw: These accessories facilitate secure and stable mounting of the unit, allowing for easy height adjustments and ensuring consistent readings.
  • 25-Foot (7.5-Meter) Hose: The generous length of the hose enables users to establish level reference points over a significant distance, making it suitable for large projects.
  • Filler Nozzle: This specialized nozzle simplifies the water filling process, ensuring a clean and efficient setup.
  • Versatility: The WL 25 Pro is designed for a broad spectrum of applications, from outdoor construction like fencing and decking to indoor remodeling and plumbing, highlighting its adaptability.
  • Working Alone Capability: The electronic feedback system makes it possible for a single person to perform leveling tasks that would typically require two people, significantly improving efficiency.
  • Around Corners Capability: Unlike traditional spirit levels, the flexible hose allows for accurate leveling around corners and obstructions, expanding its utility in complex layouts.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance of the Zircon WL 25 Pro is crucial for ensuring its longevity and continued accuracy. The device incorporates features and guidelines to facilitate easy upkeep:

  • Sensing Tube Cleaning: In areas with high mineral content in water, a coating can form inside the sensing tube, affecting accuracy. The WL 25 Pro's sensing tube is designed for easy cleaning. The included tube-cleaning brush is used by wetting it with water, inserting it fully into the short sensing tube, gently rotating the bristles to clean the contacts, removing the brush, and then rinsing. This process helps reduce mineral buildup.
  • Preventing Mineral Buildup: To minimize mineral buildup, it is recommended not to leave water in the tube overnight.
  • Draining for Storage: To prevent corrosion when not in use, the hose should be unclamped at both ends, and the water drained from the long end of the hose. The unit should then be stored with clamps open in a dry place and out of sunlight.
  • Temporary Storage: When quitting work for a short time, water can be left inside the hose. In such cases, the clamps at each end of the hose should be locked, and the hose carefully coiled.
  • Air Bubble Removal: Before each use, it is important to remove any large air bubbles from the water-filled hose to avoid inaccurate readings. This can be done by unlocking both clamps and gently shaking the hose to force air bubbles to the top.
  • Additional Hosing Availability: For extended working lengths, additional 25-foot (7.5-meter) hoses are available for purchase, complete with an additional connector. This allows users to customize their working length as needed.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a helpful hints section that addresses common issues such as trouble seeing water level, water freezing, level points changing, water running out of the tube, the unit not beeping, or the beep not operating. This guide offers practical solutions like adding food coloring to water, replacing water with a vodka-water mixture in cold conditions, securely fastening the unit, removing air bubbles, straightening kinks, closing clamps, and cleaning pins with the tube-cleaning brush.

By following these operational and maintenance guidelines, users can ensure the Zircon WL 25 Pro remains a reliable and accurate tool for all their leveling needs.
