Overview

The document describes the 23ZERO Roof Top Tent, a portable shelter designed for vehicle-mounted camping. The tent is intended to provide a convenient and durable camping experience, offering quick setup and protection from the elements.

Function Description:

The 23ZERO Roof Top Tent is designed to be mounted directly onto a vehicle's roof rack or aftermarket roof bars, transforming a vehicle into a mobile camping solution. It unfolds and sets up in just a few minutes, providing a raised sleeping area above ground. The tent is constructed with durable materials and high-quality fabrics, including an innovative LST fabric, to ensure excellent water and wind protection. It offers a secure and elevated sleeping environment, keeping campers off the ground and away from potential ground-level disturbances. The tent's design allows for various mounting orientations—rear-mounted or side-mounted—to accommodate different vehicle setups and user preferences. An optional annex can be attached to provide additional enclosed space, expanding the living area and versatility of the camping setup. The integrated ladder provides access to the tent and also serves as a structural support for the unfolded baseboard.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Setup: The tent is designed for rapid deployment, allowing users to set up camp in a matter of minutes.
  • Vehicle Mounting: It attaches to most roof racks or roof bars using a supplied mounting kit, which includes mounting rails, bolts, washers, nuts, and mounting plates.
  • Orientation Options: The tent can be mounted in two primary orientations:
    • Rear Mounted: The ladder extends from the back of the vehicle.
    • Side Mounted: The ladder extends from the side of the vehicle. The choice of orientation depends on the tent size and user preference, with larger models (Dakota 1600, 1800, 2200) recommended for side mounting.
  • Ladder System: An extendable ladder provides access to the tent. It features trigger locks on each rung to ensure it is fully extended and locked in place. The ladder's angle is crucial for safety and also acts as a brace for the suspended base of the tent. Recommended ladder placement is a 4:1 ratio or approximately 70°-75°. The ladder height can be adjusted by pressing locking buttons on the rungs to compress the ladder to the desired length.
  • Canopy Extension: The tent includes a canopy that extends over the ladder. This canopy is supported by trigger-lock canopy poles that extend until the canopy is taut and then lock into position. Guy ropes and pegs are supplied for anchoring the canopy if an annex is not used.
  • Window Stay Poles: Window canopies and the tropical fly require stay poles. These poles have hook ends that insert into eyelets on the canopies/fly and the other end into corresponding holes in the baseboard.
  • Sky Windows: All 23ZERO roof top tents feature sky windows with zippered fly mesh. These can be used with or without the tropical flysheet, allowing for sky views or improved ventilation.
  • Tropical Flysheet: A tropical flysheet is included to provide additional protection from rain and sun. It is crucial to ensure the tropical flysheet covers the sky window in rainy conditions, even if the canvas is zipped up.
  • Optional Annex: An optional annex can be attached to the tent, providing additional enclosed space. The annex attaches via a Kedar sail rope that slides into a sail track on the tent's baseboard and zips along the bottom edge of the roof top tent. Window stay poles are used to support the annex walls, and the annex is anchored with pegs.
  • Transit Cover: A PVC transit cover is supplied to protect the tent from dirt, dust, and weather during travel. The cover has a Kedar sail rope edge that slides into a sail track on the hinge side of the tent, and it zips securely around the tent. Velcro tabs cover exposed corners, and D-ring straps help reduce ballooning during travel.
  • Internal Storage: The tent allows for minimal internal storage, such as sleeping bags or blankets laid out flat. Thicker objects like pillows are not recommended as they can put excessive pressure on the baseboard and hinges.
  • Bunji Cords: Included bunji cords assist in reducing canvas billowing during pack-up. They attach to plastic loops around the windows inside the tent.

Maintenance Features:

  • Initial Cleaning: During initial setup and first use, some aluminum swarf may be present inside the tent due to manufacturing and logistics vibrations. It is advised to remove and clean this residual swarf during the first setup.
  • Regular Inspections: Due to the many moving parts in roof top tents, regular maintenance checks are advised. During trips, users should regularly check that all nuts and bolts attaching the roof top tent to the vehicle, as well as hinge and lug bolts, are tight and in good repair.
  • Ladder Safety: Always ensure the ladder is correctly placed and angled (approximately 70°-75°) before climbing. The ladder must be locked and secured at the correct angle.
  • Zip Care: When fitting or removing the transit cover or attaching the annex, ensure zips are seated correctly and avoid forcing them. Always slide zips vertically to prevent damage to the zip teeth.
  • Storage: Avoid storing the tent wet. If conditions necessitate packing it wet, open and dry it out as soon as possible to prevent moisture damage and mold growth.
  • Canvas Management: During pack-up, ensure all excess canvas is tucked in to prevent damage and ensure the transit cover fits correctly.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 2-year warranty covering faulty manufacturing or workmanship and materials. This warranty excludes damage caused by misuse, abuse, wear and tear, condensation, extreme weather, accidents, incorrect setup, mold, insects, animals, children, broken poles, jammed/snagged zippers, or excessive force applied to zippers.
