Overview

The 23ZERO PANTHER Hardshell Roof Top Tent is a robust and innovative camping solution designed for vehicle-mounted use, offering a quick and convenient setup. It is engineered to provide excellent water and wind protection, making it suitable for various outdoor conditions.

Function Description:

The PANTHER Hardshell Roof Top Tent is designed to be mounted directly onto a vehicle's roof rack, tub rack, or aftermarket roof bars. Its primary function is to provide a secure, elevated, and comfortable sleeping area for campers. The tent features a hardshell design that opens and sets up in seconds, offering a rapid deployment for overnight stays. It incorporates 23ZERO's innovative LST (Light Suppression Technology) fabric, which helps to block out light and regulate temperature inside the tent. The tent is intended for use by individuals or small groups, providing a sheltered space away from ground-level elements.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides dimensions for two models: PANTHER 1600 and PANTHER 2000. For the PANTHER 1600:

  • Length: 1580mm
  • Width: 1240mm
  • Height (when closed): 300mm
  • Mounting rail spacing: 900mm between the inner edges of the mounting rails, with a total mounting footprint of 220mm (outer edge of rail) + 800mm (space between rails) + 220mm (outer edge of rail) = 1240mm.
  • Mounting rail dimensions: 50mm wide x 22mm high.

For the PANTHER 2000:

  • Length: 1980mm
  • Width: 1400mm
  • Height (when closed): 300mm
  • Mounting rail spacing: 930mm between the inner edges of the mounting rails, with a total mounting footprint of 300mm (outer edge of rail) + 800mm (space between rails) + 300mm (outer edge of rail) = 1400mm.
  • Mounting rail dimensions: 50mm wide x 22mm high.

The tent is constructed with durable materials and high-quality fabrics, including an aluminum hardshell. It utilizes gas struts for assisted opening and includes a telescopic ladder for access. The maximum roof load rating of the vehicle and the roof rack's maximum load rating (including off-road capacity) are critical considerations for installation. The responsibility for fitting the tent to rated roof racks or bars lies with the purchaser.

Usage Features:

  • Rapid Deployment: The hardshell design allows for quick opening and setup in seconds, making it ideal for spontaneous camping trips.
  • Vehicle Mounting: Designed to mount directly to roof racks, tub racks, or aftermarket roof bars. The hinges should face the left-hand side of the vehicle (AUS passenger side), and the tent will open over the right-hand side (AUS driver's side).
  • LST Fabric: Features innovative Light Suppression Technology fabric for improved light blocking and temperature regulation.
  • Ladder Adjustment: The telescopic ladder can be adjusted to achieve a correct and safe angle (recommended 4:1 ratio or approx. 70°-75°). The ladder locks only in the downward position. It is crucial that no one is inside the tent until the ladder is locked and secured.
  • Included Accessories: The tent comes with a comprehensive mounting kit, handle kit, two accessory pockets, two red stay poles, four black stay poles, four mounting plates, eight 45mm M8 bolts and nuts, eight bolt slide plates, four mounting rail end caps, a safety pole weather adaptor, two pegs and guy ropes, and a safety pole.
  • Canopy and Window Stays: Red stay poles are used for the front canopy, and black stay poles are used for the windows, providing structural support and allowing for ventilation.
  • Safety Pole: A safety pole is included, feeding through a webbing loop at the lid end and hooking onto a body pole over the door. A weather adapter can be attached to the safety pole for water run-off in snow or inclement weather.
  • Bedding Storage: Bedding can be left inside the PANTHER when closed, provided it is folded neatly against the lid. However, excessive bedding may hinder smooth closure and should be removed if necessary to avoid stressing components.
  • Shock Cords: Pack-up assisting shock cords are used to help tuck in the canvas during closure.
  • Over-Centre Latches: The tent is secured with over-centre latches and hook and loop safety straps. The latches can be tension-adjusted by screwing the lower triangular section clockwise or anti-clockwise and fixing with a locking nut.

Maintenance Features:

  • Swarf Removal: During initial setup and first use, some aluminum swarf may be present inside the tent due to logistics vibrations. It is advised to remove and clean this during the first setup.
  • Regular Inspections: Due to many moving parts, regular maintenance checks are advised. During trips, all nuts and bolts attaching the tent to the vehicle, as well as hinges and locks, should be checked for tightness and good repair.
  • Dry Storage: It is crucial to ensure the PANTHER is packed dry at all times. If a wet pack-up is unavoidable due to weather conditions, the tent should be opened and allowed to dry fully as soon as possible to prevent mold and damage.
  • Fly Separation: Before folding, the fly must be separated from the baseboard by releasing the hook and loop strips. Failure to do so can prevent smooth folding and put undue stress on components and stitching.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 2-year warranty covering faulty manufacturing or workmanship and materials. Exclusions include damage from misuse, abuse, wear and tear, condensation, extreme weather, accidents, incorrect setup, mold, insects, animals, children, broken poles, jammed zippers, or excessive force.

The 23ZERO PANTHER Hardshell Roof Top Tent prioritizes user safety, requiring careful adherence to installation instructions, proper ladder placement, and regular maintenance checks. The manufacturer disclaims responsibility for accidents or damage resulting from improper installation, use, or maintenance.
