The Peltor Tactical 100 Hearing Protector is an electronic hearing protection device designed to suppress harmful gunshot noise while amplifying low-level sounds, enhancing situational awareness. It incorporates proprietary 3M technologies, including adaptive frequency response, which helps reduce background noise to facilitate clearer conversations and the hearing of commands. The device features sliders for adjusting the fit, microphones to pick up ambient sounds, and a single knob for both on/off control and volume adjustment. It also includes a 3.5 mm stereo audio input jack, allowing connection to external audio devices. The design incorporates a folding headband for portability, cushioned sealing rings for comfort and effective noise reduction, and an easy-access battery door for convenient battery replacement. To install batteries, two 1.5V AAA batteries are required. They should be inserted as shown in the instructions, and the battery door replaced top-end first. In terms of troubleshooting, if the battery door separates from its tether, the tether clip can be reinserted into the battery door clasp.
For best protection, the ear cushion sealing rings must seal firmly against the head. Any interference with this seal, such as long hair (which should be pulled back), thick or poorly fitting eyeglass temples, pencils, or caps, will diminish the protection. Users are advised not to bend or reshape the headband, as this can lead to a loose fit and sound leakage. Regular inspection of the earmuffs for cracks or worn parts is recommended, with replacements made as needed. The typical lifespan for foam cushion sealing rings is six months.
Maintenance of the hearing protector involves regularly cleaning its exterior with soap and warm water. It should not be immersed in water. The device should not be stored behind a windshield or in temperatures exceeding 131°F (55°C).
