Do you have a question about the 8BITDO M30 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The 8BitDo M30 Bluetooth Gamepad is a versatile controller designed for a wide range of gaming platforms, offering both wireless Bluetooth and wired USB connectivity. Its design is reminiscent of classic 6-button controllers, providing a familiar and ergonomic feel for various game genres.

Function Description:

The gamepad features a standard layout including a d-pad, six face buttons (A, B, C, X, Y, Z), Start, Select, Home, and Pair buttons. Depending on the connected platform, some buttons may have additional functionalities. For instance, when connected to a Nintendo Switch, the Star button acts as a Screenshot key, and the Home button functions as the Switch HOME button. For Android, Windows, and macOS, the controller offers specific input modes to ensure optimal compatibility and performance.

The controller supports a "Turbo" function, allowing users to assign rapid-fire capabilities to specific buttons. This feature can be activated or deactivated by holding the desired button and then pressing the Star button. It's important to note that the d-pad and analogue sticks do not support the Turbo function, and this feature is not available when connected to a Nintendo Switch.

Usage Features:

Power Management:

To turn on the controller, simply press the Start button. To turn it off, press and hold the Start button for 3 seconds. In cases where the controller becomes unresponsive, a forced shutdown can be performed by pressing and holding the Start button for 8 seconds.

Platform-Specific Connectivity:

  • Nintendo Switch: To connect to a Switch, press and hold the Y and Start buttons simultaneously to power on the controller. The LEDs will begin rotating from left to right. Then, press and hold the Pair button for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode; the LEDs will pause for 1 second before resuming rotation. Navigate to the "Controllers" menu on your Switch Home Page, select "Change Grip/Order," and the controller will connect, indicated by solid LEDs. Once paired, the controller will automatically reconnect to the Switch by simply pressing the Start button.

  • Android (D-input): For Android devices, power on the controller by pressing and holding the B and Start buttons. LED 1 will blink. Enter pairing mode by pressing and holding the Pair button for 2 seconds; LED 1 will pause for 1 second before resuming rotation. Go to your Android device's Bluetooth settings, search for "[8BitDo M30 gamepad]," and select it to pair. The LED will become solid upon successful connection. Subsequent connections can be made by pressing the Start button. Wired USB connection is also supported after the initial power-on step.

  • Windows (X-input): To connect to a Windows device, press and hold the X and Start buttons to turn on the controller. LEDs 1 and 2 will blink. Press and hold the Pair button for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode, with the LEDs pausing for 1 second before resuming rotation. In your Windows device's Bluetooth settings, search for "[8BitDo M30 gamepad]" and pair. The LEDs will become solid once connected. The controller will automatically reconnect by pressing the Start button after initial pairing. Wired USB connection is available after powering on the controller.

  • macOS: For macOS, power on the controller by pressing and holding the A and Start buttons. LEDs 1, 2, and 3 will blink. Press and hold the Pair button for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode, and the LEDs will pause for 1 second before resuming rotation. In your macOS device's Bluetooth settings, search for "[Wireless Controller]" and pair. The LEDs will become solid upon successful connection. The controller will automatically reconnect by pressing the Start button after initial pairing. Wired USB connection is also supported after powering on the controller.

Maintenance Features:

Battery and Charging:

The gamepad is equipped with a built-in 480mAh Li-on battery, providing approximately 18 hours of play time on a full charge. It is rechargeable via a USB-C cable, with a full charge typically taking 1-2 hours. The LED indicator provides clear battery status:

  • Red LED blinks: Low battery mode.
  • Red LED stays solid: Battery charging.
  • LED turns off: Battery fully charged.

Power Saving:

To conserve battery life, the controller incorporates several power-saving features:

  • Automatic Sleep Mode (Bluetooth): If there is no Bluetooth connection for 1 minute, or if there is a Bluetooth connection but no activity for 15 minutes, the controller will automatically enter sleep mode.
  • Waking the Controller: To wake up the controller from sleep mode, simply press the Start button.
  • Wired Connection: When connected via a wired USB connection, the controller will remain on and connected, bypassing the automatic sleep mode.
