Overview

This document is the operation manual and parts list for the ACER High Speed Precision Engine Lathe, covering Dynamic models 1722S-1790S, 1922S-1990S, and 2122S-2190S. It provides comprehensive information for operating, maintaining, and ordering parts for the machine.

Function Description:

The ACER High Speed Precision Engine Lathe is a manufacturing tool designed for high-speed, precise turning operations. It is capable of various tasks including general turning, threading, and automatic feeding. The lathe features a robust design to minimize vibration during heavy cutting and at high spindle speeds, ensuring high accuracy and a good surface finish on workpieces.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides detailed specifications for different models (17", 19", 21" swing over bed) across various lengths (22", 29.92", 39.37", 59", 86.61" distance between centers).

Key specifications include:

  • Swing over bed: Ranges from 430mm (17") to 520mm (20.47").
  • Swing over cross-slide: Ranges from 240mm (9.45") to 330mm (13").
  • Center height: Ranges from 215mm (8.5") to 235mm (9.25").
  • Width of bed: 300mm (11.81").
  • Spindle nose: ASA D1-8.
  • Spindle bore: 78mm (3.07").
  • Taper of spindle bore: MT#7.
  • Range of spindle speed: 40-2000 RPM (12 steps).
  • Cross slide travel: 245mm (9.65") to 275mm (10.83").
  • Compound rest travel: 125mm (4-7/8").
  • Max. size cutting tool: 25x25mm (1"x1").
  • Inch threads range: 4-56 TPI.
  • Metric threads range: P0.5-P7.
  • Longitudinal feed range: 0.05-0.82mm.
  • Cross feed range: 0.02-0.4mm.
  • Leadscrew diameter: 35mm (1.38").
  • Leadscrew pitch: 4 TPI or 6mm.
  • Taper of tailstock: MT#4.
  • Tail spindle travel: 150mm (5.91").
  • Tail spindle diameter: 58mm (2.28") to 68mm (2.68").
  • Spindle motor: 5.625KW (7.5HP) to 7.5KW (10HP).
  • Coolant motor: 0.1KW (1/8HP).
  • Net weight: Ranges from 1300 kgs to 2100 kgs depending on the model.
  • Machine dimensions: Vary by model, e.g., 165x81x119 cm for the 17" model.

The electrical control system is equipped with overload circuit breakers and electric magnetic contactors for motor protection. The main switch and foot brake are connected to micro switches for safety and quick stopping.

Usage Features:

The manual emphasizes correct operation for efficiency and accuracy.

  • Unpacking and Installation: Detailed instructions are provided for unpacking, lifting, and setting up the machine, including foundation requirements to prevent vibration. The machine should be at least 600mm (2 feet) from a wall for electrical cabinet access.
  • Cleaning: Before operation, the machine must be cleaned of anti-rust agent using cleaning solvent or kerosene (not gasoline or cellulose solvent) and then lubricated.
  • Level Adjustment: The bedways must be leveled to an accuracy of 0.04mm/1000mm using machinist's levels.
  • Spindle Operation: Spindle speed selection is achieved through a combination of three shifting levers, offering 12 spindle speeds. The spindle control lever manages forward, reverse, and stop functions. A jog button allows momentary spindle rotation for adjustments.
  • Gear Box Operation: The gear box is designed for threading and automatic feeding without needing to re-arrange back gears. Operators select appropriate settings using thread/feed selection levers and a 10-step feed selection dial.
  • Threading: Instructions for engaging the half nut and using the thread chasing dial are provided. Special notes are included for cutting metric threads with an inch leadscrew, requiring the half nut to be engaged at all times.
  • Automatic Feeding: The apron features an automatic stop device with adjustable trip dogs for precise length or step-type workpiece processing.
  • Tailstock Operation: The tailstock handwheel dial allows precise quill movement, with automatic dead center release. The tailstock body and spindle can be clamped, and the centerline is adjustable.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines several maintenance procedures to ensure longevity and performance.

  • Lubrication: Headstock lubrication is splash injection type, requiring Shell Tellus #32 oil. The gear box and apron are reservoir oil bath types, using Shell Tellus Omala #50 and Shell Tellus #68 respectively. Oil changes are recommended every six months, with an initial change for the headstock after one month. A lubrication chart and location map are provided.
  • Headstock Maintenance: Instructions for preventing oil leaks by cleaning and greasing matching surfaces, and clearing blocked oil return lines by blowing air through a small hole near the front bearing.
  • Spindle Bearing Adjustment: Precision taper roller bearings require suitable preload. The locking nut G can be adjusted to maintain accuracy and prevent chattered cutting finish. Over-tightening should be avoided to prevent bearing damage.
  • Apron & Saddle Maintenance: Adjustment procedures for the half nut engagement lever and for clearing a blocked manual pump are detailed. The longitudinal and cross auto-feeding overload device (cone clutch) can be adjusted to a safety limit of 12 Kg.
  • Gear Box Maintenance: Oil input and drain locations are specified, with oil changes recommended every six months.
  • Tailstock Center Line Adjustment: The tailstock centerline can be adjusted by loosening specific screws and using a test bar between dead centers.
  • Belt Tension Adjustment: Belts stretch over time and require tension adjustment by loosening the adjusting nut and lowering the motor.
  • Brake Belt Adjustment: The brake band can be adjusted by tightening nuts on the top and bottom of the brake band.
  • Brake & Micro Switch Adjustment: The foot brake should have 0-1mm end play with the micro switch, ensuring electricity is cut off before stopping the spindle.
  • Leadscrew Backlash Adjustment: Backlash in the leadscrew, which can cause multiple cutting during threading, can be adjusted by opening the plastic cover of the leadscrew bracket and tightening specific nuts.
  • Coolant System Repair: Troubleshooting steps for a non-functional coolant pump, including checking motor operation, coolant level, and cleaning or repairing the pump if blocked or damaged.

The manual also includes mechanical drawings and a parts breakdown list for ordering spare parts, emphasizing the need to provide machine model, serial number, item number, part number, description, year of production, voltage, horsepower, and quantity.
