This document describes the ACOVA electric radiator, a heating appliance designed for comfort and efficiency.
Function Description
The ACOVA electric radiator is a heating appliance that uses a circulating fluid (mineral oil) to generate and distribute heat. It is designed to provide warmth in residential settings and is equipped with an electronic control system for precise temperature regulation. The radiator can operate in several modes, including:
- Auto: Automatic operation based on programmed settings.
- Pilot wire: Allows the radiator to be controlled by a central programming unit, enabling advanced scheduling and zone control.
- Heating stop: Turns off the heating function.
- Comfort: Maintains a comfortable temperature, typically around 20°C.
- Eco: An energy-saving mode that sets the temperature lower than Comfort mode, often around 16.5°C, suitable for nighttime or extended absences.
- Frost protection: Maintains a minimum temperature (e.g., 7°C) to prevent freezing in the room when the radiator is not actively heating.
The radiator's electronic control unit features a mode selector knob, a temperature adjustment knob, a status indicator LED, and a protective cover. The status indicator LED provides visual feedback on the radiator's current state:
- Green (fixed): Radiator is in heating stop mode.
- Green (flashing): Radiator is in heating mode, and the desired temperature has been reached.
- Red (fixed): Radiator is in heating mode, and the desired temperature has not been reached.
- Red (flashing): Indicates a fault with the radiator.
The pilot wire functionality allows the radiator to receive commands from a central programming unit, enabling it to switch between Comfort, Eco, and Frost protection modes based on a predefined schedule. This feature is particularly useful for optimizing energy consumption across different times of the day or week.
Important Technical Specifications
- Power supply: The appliance is designed to operate on a 230V power supply.
- Electrical connection: It must be connected to the mains via a junction box, positioned at least 25 cm from the floor. The electrical connection should be made by a qualified professional, adhering to current European and French standards (CEI 60364.7.701 and NF C15-100).
- Protection class: Class II, double insulated.
- IP rating: IP 34, indicating protection against solid objects larger than 2.5 mm and splashing water from any direction. This makes it suitable for installation in bathrooms, provided specific clearances are maintained.
- Fluid type: The radiator is filled with a high-performance thermal mineral oil. This fluid is factory-filled and sealed, requiring no special maintenance or refilling.
- Installation clearances:
- Minimum 10 cm clearance from the bottom of the appliance to the floor.
- Minimum 50 cm clearance from the front of the appliance to any objects (furniture, curtains, etc.) to ensure proper air circulation.
- Minimum 10 cm clearance from the top of the radiator to any objects (furniture, shelves, etc.).
- Minimum 25 cm clearance from the bottom of the appliance to the floor in bathrooms.
- Minimum 25 cm clearance from the junction box to the floor in bathrooms.
- The appliance must be securely fixed to the wall using appropriate mounting screws.
Usage Features
Installation:
The radiator must be installed vertically. For safe installation, it is crucial to position the bottom of the appliance at a minimum of 10 cm above the floor and maintain a minimum of 50 cm clearance from the front to any objects. In bathrooms, the junction box must be positioned at least 25 cm from the floor. The electrical connection involves a pilot wire (blue or grey: neutral, brown: live, black: pilot wire) for connection to a central programming unit. If a pilot wire is not connected, it must be insulated for safety reasons.
Operating Modes:
The mode selector knob allows users to choose between various operating modes:
- Heating stop: The radiator stops heating.
- Comfort: The radiator maintains the temperature set by the temperature adjustment knob.
- Eco: The radiator maintains a temperature 3.5°C below the Comfort setting.
- Frost protection: The radiator maintains a minimum temperature of 7°C to prevent freezing.
- Pilot wire: The radiator receives commands from a central programming unit.
Temperature Adjustment:
The temperature adjustment knob allows users to set the desired temperature for Comfort mode. The radiator will then regulate its heating output to maintain this temperature.
Safety Features:
- Overheating protection: The appliance is designed to prevent overheating. Users are warned not to cover the heating appliance.
- Surface temperature: The surface of the radiator can become hot during operation. Users are advised to be cautious and avoid prolonged contact.
- Child safety: The appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the safe use of the appliance and understand the hazards involved. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be made by children without supervision.
- Water splashes: The appliance is protected against splashes of water (IP 34), making it suitable for installation in bathrooms, provided the specified clearances are maintained. It is important not to immerse the appliance in water.
Maintenance Features
Routine Maintenance:
- Cleaning: To maximize the service life of the radiator, regular cleaning is recommended. This includes:
- Removing dust and corrosive products from the outer surfaces of the appliance using a soft, dry cloth without any solvents.
- Cleaning the body of the radiator, the grille, and the control unit with a soft, dry cloth.
- Avoid using abrasive or corrosive products, solvents, or soapy water.
- Fluid: The fluid inside the radiator is factory-filled and sealed. It does not require any maintenance or refilling. Any repair work requiring the oil tank to be opened should only be carried out by the manufacturer or their after-sales service department.
