Overview

This document is a service bulletin (21-034, Version 2) from Acura, dated April 29, 2022, concerning the Total Quality Inspection (TQI) of the navigation system in the 2022 RDX. It supersedes a previous version from October 19, 2021, with revisions highlighted in yellow, specifically updating owner's manual information under the "Introduction" section.

Function Description:

The bulletin outlines the procedures for performing a TQI on the 2022 RDX navigation system, ensuring its proper functionality before vehicle delivery. The navigation system is an integrated component that provides guidance, entertainment, and connectivity features. It includes controls for navigation, voice commands, rearview and surround view cameras, and AcuraLink® services. The TQI process ensures that all these systems are initialized, calibrated, and operating correctly.

Usage Features:

The navigation system is primarily controlled through an audio/information screen and a touchpad interface.

  • Audio/Information Screen: This screen displays the navigation map, phone functions, FM radio, Bluetooth audio, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and system settings. It features a "Home Screen" with various cards for quick access to functions like "Now Playing Audio," "Navigation," and "Clock."
  • Touchpad Interface: Located in the center console, the touchpad allows for interaction with the screen. It has a "Back Button," "Home Button," and "Cards List Button." The touchpad is divided into "Touchpad A" (controls the primary information area) and "Touchpad B" (controls the secondary information area).
  • Voice Control System: This is a primary method for interacting with the system, designed to reduce driver distraction. Commands are given using the "Talk button" on the steering wheel and microphones in the ceiling console. The system allows users to control navigation and audio functions by voice.
  • Rearview Camera: Activates when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, displaying the rear view with distance guidelines on the navigation screen. Multiple camera views are available by pressing the "CAMERA button."
  • Surround View Camera (Advance Trim Level Only): Provides a front view image on the navigation screen when the "CAMERA button" is pressed. It also displays distance guidelines and allows switching between different camera views.
  • AcuraLink®: This service delivers remote vehicle services via an embedded cellular module and the client's smartphone. It provides access to emergency services, remote vehicle functions, enhanced navigation services, remote vehicle diagnosis, and client relation services. The client's smartphone also allows access to Pandora® and Aha™ and offers vehicle finder and tracking services through individual apps. The AcuraLink System Status indicator, located near the "ASSIST" and "LINK" buttons, shows the system's status (Steady Green for ready, Blinking Green for call in progress, Steady Red for a problem, and Alternately Blinks Red and Green for self-diagnosis).

Important Technical Specifications & Initialization:

The TQI process involves several critical steps to ensure the system's proper initialization and functionality:

  1. Ignition ON: The process begins by turning the ignition to ON.
  2. InLine Diagnostics: The bulletin describes how to exit the factory diagnostic mode if the "InLine Diagnostics" screen appears. This involves selecting "Start Diag," pressing and releasing all steering wheel buttons shown on the screen (which should turn green), and pressing the "Talk button" while making a loud sound or saying "Testing" to ensure the mic level indicator reaches at least six bars. All icons should turn green before selecting "Exit Diag."
  3. Anti-Theft System: If battery power has been lost, an "Anti Theft System" screen may appear. The system is enabled by touching and holding the "Power/AUDIO" icon for more than 2 seconds, allowing the PCM to verify the vehicle's VIN. A long beep confirms exit from anti-theft mode.
  4. GPS Initialization: The vehicle must be parked in an open area away from obstructions for GPS signal acquisition. The "Disclaimer" screen appears, and "OK" must be selected. If the GPS icon is crossed out, it indicates a lack of signal.
  5. SiriusXM® Radio: Verification of active dealer demo service by tuning to various channels within the full channel lineup. SiriusXM is free for the first 90 days for clients.
  6. Map Matching: The vehicle needs to be driven at least half a mile for the navigation system to align its current location to a mapped road. The vehicle position (VP) icon should move smoothly and point in the direction of travel.
  7. Voice Command Testing: Testing voice commands like "Navigation," "Find Place," and "Acura dealer" to ensure the system responds correctly.
  8. Clock Adjustment: Verifying the navigation display time is correct, which is obtained from GPS satellites. Adjusting "Auto Daylight" and "Auto Time Zone" settings if necessary.
  9. Traffic Information: Checking for traffic incident and flow data display (red, yellow, or green lines) on the map in metropolitan areas.
  10. Factory Data Reset: After the TQI, all saved information is cleared by performing a "Factory Data Reset" from the "Settings" menu.

Maintenance Features:

  • Camera Lens Cleaning: If the rearview or surround view camera images are foggy or dirty, the camera lenses should be cleaned.
  • Troubleshooting: The bulletin directs technicians to the service information (using keywords "HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT" and "How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System") for diagnosing and resolving any issues encountered during TQI or after part replacement. This helps differentiate between system characteristics and actual problems.
  • Map Coverage Areas: The map database covers the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada, with varying levels of detail for metropolitan and rural areas. Updates to detailed coverage areas can be found in the online navigation manual.
  • HD FM Traffic Information: Traffic information is available in many metropolitan areas, with coverage varying. The system displays traffic incidents and flow data. If no HD FM Traffic is available or the vehicle is outside its signal range, traffic information will not be displayed.
