6 Do one of the following:
• (Windows) Click Cancel.
• (Mac OS and Unix) Click Done.
7 Save Ref2.fm and close the file.
8 Save Ref1.fm, but do not close the file.
Inserting footnotes
Next you’ll add two brief footnotes to the text.
1 Go to page 2 of Ref1.fm.
2 Choose View > Text Symbols to turn on text symbols, if necessary.
3 In the right column, click at the end of the second sentence under the Kailua Area
heading, as shown.
4 Choose Special > Footnote. A footnote reference number now appears where you clicked.
Also, an empty footnote appears at the bottom of the page with a separator line between
it and the body text.

in days gone by. Fishermen
would haul in giants from the
bountiful waters, while farmers tended
their fields up the slopes of Hualalai. Kona
