Overview

The AEG AFNDA18B and AFNDA18BNZ are 15GA Angle Finish Nailers designed for various fastening applications in both interior and exterior settings. These cordless power tools are part of the AEG POWERTOOLS range and operate on an 18V battery system.

Function Description:

These nailers are primarily used for driving 15 gauge DA type 34-degree finish nails into various materials. They offer two actuation modes: full sequential actuation and contact actuation, providing flexibility for different tasks. Full sequential actuation ensures precise fastener placement by requiring the workpiece contact to be depressed before the trigger is pulled. Contact actuation allows for faster, repetitive fastener placement by firing a nail when the workpiece contact is pressed against the surface while the trigger is held. The tools are designed for single-hand use, emphasizing safety and control during operation. They feature a depth of drive adjustment and air pressure adjustment to control how deeply nails are driven, accommodating different wood hardnesses and application requirements. A no-mar pad is included to prevent marring or denting of softer workpieces.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Voltage: 18 V
  • Fastener Type: 15 gauge DA type, 34 degree finish nails
  • Cycle Rate: 1/second
  • Magazine Capacity: 100 nails
  • Fastener Range: 25 to 65 mm
  • Weight (not including battery pack): 3.5 kg
  • Nail Diameter: .069 in.
  • Compatible Battery Packs (not included): L1815R, L1820R, L1825R, L1830R, L1840R, L1850R, L1860R (AEG 18V battery system)
  • Compatible Chargers (not included): AL1218G, BL1218, BLK1218, BL18DP-X5

Usage Features:

  • Battery Installation/Removal: Battery packs are installed by aligning the raised rib on the pack with the groove in the product and pushing until latches snap into place. Removal involves depressing the latches on both sides of the battery pack.
  • Loading Nails: The magazine can hold up to 100 nails. To load, the pusher is slid to the rear until it locks, and a strip of nails (pointed downward and at the correct angle) is fed into the magazine. The nail strip should be slid as far forward as possible, and the release button is pressed to allow the pusher to advance the nails to the driving mechanism.
  • Actuation Modes (AFNDA18B only):
    • Full Sequential Actuation: Selected by sliding the trigger mode selector to 'T'. Requires depressing the workpiece contact against the surface, then squeezing the trigger to drive a fastener. This mode provides accurate fastener placement.
    • Contact Actuation: Selected by sliding the trigger mode selector to 'TTT'. Requires squeezing and holding the trigger, then pushing the product against the work surface to depress the workpiece contact and drive a fastener. This mode is suitable for fast, repetitive fastening.
  • Depth of Drive Adjustment: A dial allows adjustment of the nail's driving depth. Turning the dial to the left decreases depth, and to the right increases depth. Testing on a scrap workpiece is recommended.
  • Air Power Adjustment: A lever adjusts the internal air pressure. Moving it to the right increases air power, and to the left decreases it. This helps achieve the desired depth of drive, especially for different materials.
  • No-Mar Pad: A removable pad on the nose prevents marring of soft workpieces. An extra pad is stored on the magazine.
  • Jam Release: In case of a jammed fastener, the jam release latch can be opened. An elevation screw can be turned clockwise with a flat blade screwdriver to move the driving mechanism and free the nail jam.
  • LED Button: An LED button is available, likely for illumination of the work area.
  • Belt Clip: A belt clip is integrated for convenient carrying.
  • Pusher: Used to advance nails in the magazine.
  • Angled Magazine: The magazine is angled to accommodate the 34-degree finish nails.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The ventilation slots of the machine must be kept clear at all times. The magazine should be cleaned if it becomes dirty.
  • Battery Care:
    • New battery packs require 4-5 charging/discharging cycles to reach full capacity.
    • Store battery packs in a cool, dry place (below 27°C) and away from moisture.
    • For storage longer than 30 days, keep battery packs in a 30%-50% charged condition and recharge every six months.
    • Keep contacts of chargers and battery packs clean.
    • Do not crush, drop, or damage battery packs.
  • Jam Clearing: Instructions are provided for safely clearing jammed fasteners, including removing the battery pack, opening the jam release, and using the elevation screw.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the tool not operating, fasteners not driven fully, frequent jams, or LED lights flashing. Solutions range from replenishing nails, adjusting settings, cleaning the magazine, to recharging the battery or seeking professional repair.
  • Service and Parts: Users are advised to use only AEG accessories and spare parts. For components not described in the manual, contact AEG service agents. Exploded views of the product can be ordered by stating the Article No. and machine type.
