Overview

This document is a user manual for an AEG cooker hood, model DGX3523S. It provides comprehensive instructions on safety, installation, daily use, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description

The AEG cooker hood is designed for domestic use above hobs, cookers, and similar cooking devices, primarily in an indoor environment. Its main function is to extract smoke and steam generated during cooking, improving air quality in the kitchen. The appliance features a light switch to illuminate the cooking surface and a fan speed switch to adjust the extraction power. An indicator light shows when the hood is in operation.

The cooker hood operates by drawing air through grease filters, which capture fat particles. For models equipped with them, charcoal filters further purify the air by absorbing odors before it is recirculated into the room (in recirculation mode) or expelled outside (in extraction mode).

Usage Features

The cooker hood offers adjustable fan speeds to suit different cooking needs:

  • Speed 1: Recommended for heating up food or cooking with covered pots.
  • Speed 2: Suitable for cooking with covered pots on multiple cooking zones or burners, and gentle frying.
  • Speed 3: Ideal for boiling and frying large quantities of food without a lid, or cooking on multiple cooking zones or burners.

The manual recommends operating the hood for approximately 15 minutes before and after cooking to ensure optimal performance. The lighting function works independently of the fan, allowing users to illuminate the cooking surface as needed.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the cooker hood's efficiency and safety. The manual details the following maintenance procedures:

General Cleaning

  • Surfaces: Clean the appliance's surface with a soft cloth, warm water, and a mild detergent. Abrasive detergents, brushes, steam cleaners, water sprays, harsh abrasive cleaners, or sharp metal scrapers should not be used.
  • Interior: Use a soft cloth to clean the interior of the appliance.
  • Stains: After cooking, allow the appliance to cool down, then dry it with a clean cloth or paper towels to prevent stains. Mild detergent can be used for persistent stains.

Grease Filter Cleaning

  • Frequency: Grease filters should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, to prevent fat accumulation, which can pose a fire risk.
  • Method: Grease filters can be washed in a dishwasher using a low temperature and a short cycle. Discoloration of the filter may occur but does not affect performance. Alternatively, they can be cleaned manually with a sponge and non-abrasive detergents.
  • Removal/Installation: To remove, press the handle of the mounting clip on the filter panel, slightly tilt the front of the filter downwards, and pull it out. Installation is the reverse process.

Charcoal Filter Replacement (Optional)

  • Frequency: Activated charcoal filters are not washable or regenerable and must be replaced approximately every 4 to 6 months, or more frequently with heavy usage.
  • Procedure: First, remove the grease filters. Then, turn the charcoal filter counterclockwise and pull it out. Installation is the reverse.

Lamp Replacement

  • Safety: Before replacing the lamp, disconnect the appliance from the mains supply and ensure the light bulb has cooled down to avoid burns or electric shock. Protective gloves should be worn.
  • Procedure: The lamp cover has two slots; use a flat, non-sharp plastic tool to gently remove it. Replace the lamp, then mount the lamp cover back in place.

The manual emphasizes the importance of following all safety instructions during installation, use, and maintenance to prevent injury, electric shock, fire, or damage to the appliance. It also advises contacting an Authorized Service Centre for repairs and using only original spare parts.
