Overview

This document is a user manual for the AEG HKP85410FB hob, an induction cooking appliance. It provides comprehensive information on safety, product description, daily use, flexible induction cooking area features, hints and tips, care and cleaning, troubleshooting, installation, technical data, and energy efficiency.

Function Description

The AEG HKP85410FB is an induction hob designed for household cooking. It features induction cooking zones that generate heat directly in the bottom of the cookware, ensuring efficient and fast cooking. The hob includes a control panel with sensor fields for operation, displays, indicators, and sounds to communicate function status.

Key functions include:

  • ON/OFF: Activates and deactivates the hob.
  • Heat Setting: Allows users to set and change the heat level for each cooking zone using a control bar.
  • Power Function (P): Provides additional power to induction cooking zones for a limited period, enabling faster heating.
  • Automatic Heat Up: Activates the cooking zone at the highest setting initially, then reduces it to the desired heat setting for quicker cooking.
  • Count Down Timer: Sets a specific duration for a cooking zone to operate, automatically deactivating it when the time ends.
  • CountUp Timer: Monitors how long a cooking zone has been operating.
  • Minute Minder: Functions as a general timer when cooking zones are not active, signaling with a sound when the set time expires.
  • Lock / Child Safety Device: Locks the control panel to prevent accidental changes to settings during operation or to prevent children from operating the hob.
  • OffSound Control: Allows deactivation or activation of the hob's sounds.
  • Power Management Function: Automatically adjusts power distribution between cooking zones connected to the same phase if the total electricity load exceeds a certain limit.
  • Hob²Hood Function: An advanced automatic function that connects the hob to a special hood via infra-red signals. It automatically adjusts the fan speed based on the hob's mode setting and the temperature of the hottest cookware. Manual fan speed control is also available.
  • Flexible Induction Cooking Area (FlexiBridge): Consists of four sections that can be combined into two separate cooking zones, or into one large cooking area, offering three modes: Standard, Big Bridge, and Max Bridge, to accommodate different cookware sizes and shapes.

Usage Features

The hob is designed for intuitive use with its sensor-field control panel.

  • Activating and Deactivating: A simple touch for 1 second on the ON/OFF sensor field activates or deactivates the hob.
  • Setting Heat: Heat settings are adjusted by touching or sliding a finger along the control bar.
  • Automatic Switch Off: The hob automatically deactivates under various conditions, such as no heat setting after activation, spills on the control panel, overheating, incorrect cookware, or prolonged unattended operation.
  • Cooking Zone Indication: Horizontal lines on the display indicate the maximum and minimum suitable cookware diameters for each zone.
  • Power Function: Activated by touching 'P' on the control panel, it provides a temporary boost for rapid heating.
  • Timer Functions: The Count Down Timer, CountUp Timer, and Minute Minder are set using the timer sensor fields and +/- buttons, providing flexibility for managing cooking times.
  • Lock Function: Activated by touching the lock sensor field, it prevents accidental changes to settings.
  • Child Safety Device: Activated by touching the lock sensor field for 4 seconds without a heat setting, it prevents unintended operation. It can be temporarily overridden for a single cooking session.
  • Hob²Hood Operation: Users can choose automatic modes (H1-H6) where the hood fan speed adjusts based on cooking activity, or manually control the fan speed from the hob. The light on the hood can also be set to activate automatically with the hob.
  • FlexiBridge Modes:
    • Standard Mode: Active upon hob activation, connects sections into two separate cooking zones, allowing individual heat settings.
    • Big Bridge Mode: Connects three rear sections into one cooking zone, with the front section operating separately.
    • Max Bridge Mode: Connects all four sections into one large cooking zone, with heat settings controlled by any of the two left-side control bars.
    • Cookware Placement: Specific guidelines are provided for optimal cookware placement in each FlexiBridge mode to ensure proper heating.
  • PowerSlide Function: Divides the flexible induction cooking area into three zones with different heat settings (front for highest, middle, rear for lowest). Users can adjust the temperature by moving cookware between these positions. The hob remembers custom heat settings for each position.

Maintenance Features

Regular care and cleaning are essential for maintaining the appliance's performance and appearance.

  • General Cleaning: The hob should be cleaned after each use. A moist soft cloth and neutral detergents are recommended. Abrasive products, cleaning pads, solvents, or metal objects should be avoided.
  • Cookware: Always use cookware with a clean bottom to prevent scratches. Cookware made of cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, or multi-layer with a correct manufacturer mark is suitable for induction. Aluminium, copper, brass, glass, ceramic, or porcelain cookware is not suitable.
  • Immediate Removal of Spills: Melted plastic, plastic foil, sugar, and food with sugar should be removed immediately using a special scraper at an acute angle to prevent damage to the glass surface.
  • Cool-Down Cleaning: Limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and shiny metallic discoloration should be removed once the hob is sufficiently cool, using a moist cloth and non-abrasive detergent, or a solution of water with vinegar for metallic discoloration.
  • No Steam Cleaners: Steam cleaners should not be used.
  • Ventilation: Ensure ventilation openings are not blocked.
  • Bottom Protection: If installed above drawers, ensure sufficient space for air circulation and install a separation panel made of plywood, kitchen carcass material, or other non-flammable materials to protect the bottom from heat and moisture.
  • Electrical Connection: All electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician, and the appliance must be earthed. The mains cable should not tangle, and a shock protection must be installed.
  • Service: For repairs, contact an Authorised Service Centre and use original spare parts.
